I was laid off from my hateful job with Western Electric in Birmingham, Alabama back in 1981. A co-worker there, who escaped the axe, told me, "Quendi, this is your big chance. You've always talked about how much you want to live in Colorado. Take your severance pay and move there right away." I have always been grateful that I followed his advice.

When I was still a JW, I was whining to a JW friend of mine about things I wanted to do, but my elder husband wouldn't "let" me. She said, "Sometimes you have to pull yourself up by your own bootstraps."
So I started pulling. I'm no longer married to the elder. I'm no longer associated with JW's. I have had a better life ever since.

I was counciled for watching R rated movies... I had mentioned Schindler's List out in service and someone in the car group ratted me out.
Another Elder who admitted to watching Rs told me the above...
It is really good advice and applies to more than you would think.
When asked why I'm currently inactive I used the above line of reasoning in reverse...
I can't defend (from the bible) new lite such as overlapping generations so how can I promote it?
The Elder admitted he didn't understand it either but he was "waiting on Jehovah."

Someone once told me to "F**K OFF!" , as I like both sex and travel I thought it great advice.
Relax and use lots of lube.
I remeber a householder who said to me " God put you here on this earth to test my patience, now get out of here before i explode" In a way that was good advice in a way i didn't comprehend at the time.
