Welcome! About never fully getting over it...I think we are the sum of all our experiences, good and bad. The forgettable experiences mark us but if we are resilient we can turn it in to compassion for others who have lived through similar experiences.
My husband is similar to your wife. Only one of his brothers remains a Witness, and that guy is a hardcore freak, luckily living far, far away. I mean, he does not even deem my husband to be good association. And the man looks so normal, distinguished even.
