Discussion with some elders

GU: the general vibe I got from our discussion was my thoughts and disagreemets are fine, but influencing my wife and others would cross a line.

This is the point that got me , you are not permitted to influence your own wife ? Have the elders now assumed the role as head of your household ?

As Oubliette says , Few things shout, "Cult!" as loudly as behavior like this. And I`m afraid I agree with others here its just a matter of time before you are called to a judicial meeting , its the exception rather than the rule to let you go unpunished for your independant thinking .

I just went through a very similar experience. I got away safe for the moment also. I can tell by the looks of some that know though that it is only a matter of time. At least my wife has realized all that she has done by turning me in is embarass us both. She now does not bother to ask me what I am reading on the internet. I did loose all priviledges except commenting. Not that I care! lol.

The mindset you describe in your wife is very common.

Its hard to describe. JW.org has videos on the history of the

organisation that include showing the cover of the Book,

The Finished Mystery, an amazing brashness, since this book

is full of nonsensical rants and a false prophesy, every other page.

But the hard core "organization" follower will tell you it "doesn't matter".

The core doctrine of the "faithful and discreet slave" is so deeply embeded

its like they are holding on to a magical charm,

that will keep them from harm.

Functioning "outside the organization" has been described as

a terrifying and dangerous and meaningless life,

so they cling like mad to what they know.

Thats probably why the Bible describes spiritual release

as a "veil" that drops from the eyes, 2 Cor 3:16-18 (which is about freedom )

or as a "sleeper who arises from the dead".

    Once used by the WT, as a basis for the Awake magazine;

    Ephesians 5:14

    "Awake, O sleeper!

    Rise from the dead

and Christ will shine upon you!"

    Welcome!

Don't be suprised if you are interrogated further. The Eldubs are so deluded that they will blindly follow their Guru's, the Governing Buddies and their real sacred text, the Shepherd Book. All it takes is 1 or 2 strong personalities on the BOE. Remember, these are the same guys who tell suicidal people to chant, " I am an integrity keeper", over and over when they think of swallowing a bullet.

Its easy to think that since you did nothing wrong, you can be open about your thoughts. The wt org isn't a democracy and you don't have any rights within it. Its a total dictatorship, where they believe all opposers or people w views differing from those of the org deserve death. So, don't be surprised that, as you await your execution at armageddon, that they kick you out and shun you in the interem.

    Hey,welcome!

You did a good job knowing that JC meetings are not a threat.

Remind your wife what a loyal good man you have been to her. You stand by her.

Not too sure why these women feel the need to run to elders over what their husbands read!

A good man deserves respect. It is not like your into child pornography, incest,or beating her!

Some times I think women want out of the relationship and are trying to find an excuse.

Its another example of how the WT interferes in family relationships.

And convinces mothers, fathers, husbands and wives to choose the

"organization" over children and parents and those whom only death

    is supposed to separate.

You might try getting your wife to think about this, "Why does she feel the need to tell the elders about your personal thoughts and private discussions? What does this mean about your relationship? What does this say about the religion?"

That being said, tread lightly and proceed cautiously.

So THEY can influence your wife, but YOU cannot!

Few things shout, "Cult!" as loudly as behavior like this.

The only thing more ridiculous than the notion that anyone thinks they have the right to tell another adult WHO they can and cannot talk to and WHAT they can and cannot discuss is that anyone goes along with it.

Well I have been thinking long and hard as to this post. It is amazing to me how normal people such as Oubliette will view this situation, (normal in the respect they are not active JWs, no disrespect meant) and yet in regards to myself, these thoughts really never occured in my mind. Apparently a submissive attitude is still deeply engrained in my subconscious. During the course of my discussion with these elders I truly believe they felt that they were allowing me to have my own thinking, not realizing that by limiting a discussion between adults, that stifles a discussion that could truly help individuals grow. I am thankful for all the responses at this board it has really been a boost to see so many heartfelt, honest replies, even though im sure many of us have our own individual opinions in regards to the WT organization.

This takes me too my next question for many of the members here. I know from reading many of the posts here that many people here truly view the WT as a potentially damaging organization to many people, and while it is true their policies have been shown to harm many people, I personally do not hold the view that much of the leadership is inherently evil, or has some plot to make millions. From my lifetime in the organization I think most people genuinely want to serve God and life a good life. To me it seems as if the organization and the policies/doctrines that have developed, have become not some Biblical truth, but their own entity so to speak, forcing regular people to toe-the-line to established traditions. I say this because if I am disfellowshipped someday(a prospect that will have little effect on my life), based upon entire history with many different elders and serving as a pioneer and m.s., I believe the elders truly think they will be serving God, and possibly even "helping" me in some twisted way.

So what is the question then I was supposed to ask, do you view this organization, an organization with which you know doubt had many close friends because of, do you think this organization is inherently evil? Perhaps evil evokes an image of intense malice, perhaps dangerous may be a better word? But please, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Hi GoUnion, Since the WTBTS uses BITE control techniques to coerce JWs to do what the WTBTS wants and not what God or Jesus Christ wants, isn't that a form of evil? Even Jesus Christ labeled the Pharisees and Sadducees as "ferocious wolves" in Matthew 7:15 [ True and False Prophets ] “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves."

The WTBTS may not be evil, but it is a very hypocritical organization. JWs can appear to be very caring and loving to JWs, but only as long as one is a JW in good standing. Is it evil for the WTBTS to promote that JWs must shun former JWs and tear apart families just because former JWs do not believe the WTBTS is God's sole channel for JWs? Is it evil for the WTBTS to pressure families not to except whole blood transfusions and possibly die to comply with a warped and unscriptual "Blood" doctrine created by Freddy Franz/Nathan Knorr? Is it evil for the WTBTS to be so controlling that JWs create a cult persona and authentic persona to live by the controlling doctrines of the WTBTS?

In time as the BITE control wears off you will start to full-fill your potential and your opinion may change about the WTBTS.

Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,

    Robert
