A question I've always asked myself when I learned of the WT's NGO status with UN to "use the library" is this: given the WT's history of opposition to the UN, what information in the UN's library could possibly be so important that the the WT would take this action? The simple answer is: nothing!! Even if the UN had the greatest library on earth with information the WT would like to use, If WT truly believed its own words, they would not view anything in that library as worth compromising themselves for.

    .

The fact is, WT is no different than the religions they've routinely condemned. In fact, they are worse, because other religions do not hide what they are doing nor do they hypocritically condemn others for doing what they do. WT not only hides their activity, they then lie about it and keep the rank-and-file JWs completely in the dark. If WT had nothing to be ashamed of and was innocent, as they claim, then why hide it and lie ?? An honest mistake does not need to be explained by lies and deception; simply admit the mistake and move on. But deliberate action that's been hidden and eventually exposed does require lies in order to fool the gullible (JWs).

    Awake! December 8 (1990) p.24

"Human governments have schemed to form the most brazen and defiant conspiracy against divine rule that has ever existed. (Compare Isaiah 8:11-13.) They have done so, not once, but twice, creating first the League of Nations and then the United Nations."

    .

re-written and applying it to the Watchtower:

"The Watchtower has schemed to form the most brazen and defiant conspiracy against Jehovah's Witnesses that has ever existed. (Compare Isaiah 8:11-13.) They have done so, not once, but twice, joining first the United Nations and then the OSCE."

    .

This is excerpted from a letter dated March 4, 2004 from Paul Hoeffel, the then Chief of the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) Section of the U.N. Department of Public Information. It was written in response to "numerous inquiries regarding the association of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York with the Department of Public Information (DPI)."

    The letter states:

"This organization [the WTBTS] applied for association with DPI in 1991 and was granted association in 1992. By accepting association with DPI, the organization agreed to meet criteria for association, including support and respect of the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and commitment and means to conduct effective information programmes with its constituents and to a broader audience about UN activities."

to answer the OP's question, GB's letter regarding UN membership - How Do You Prove Them Wrong?

You don't have to do anything other than read Watchtower's own literature. They prove themselves wrong, condemned by their own words. Debunking Watchtower is effortless....simply refer to their own literature.

WT not only hides their activity, they then lie about it and keep the rank-and-file JWs completely in the dark.

    Worth repeating

The real disingenuous lie that the WTS. presented when this situation came out was that they said they didn't sign the

NGO application and that the application didn't say specifically NGO member organizations had to be in agreement with the stated UN charter.

    .

The WTS. then again joined another worldly government run organization in Europe called the OSCE, basically the equivalent to the UN in the states

    in its operational intent..

    .

Did the WTS. join this organization to use a specific library of sorts ? no they joined to utilize the organization toward in helping

establishing themselves in countries where they been having problems in doing so.

What truthfully occurred is that the WTS got caught in a act of hypocrisy in joining the UN as a recognized NGO member.

No matter how much they try to retort the accusation by saying not all applied NGOs have to be in agreement with the UN charter,

something they tried to weasel themselves out of as a means to refute themselves.

    .

Lying as its noted is a big part of this religious power organization, instructed and encouraged by all recognized members from the very top down.

Its even been established and identified as spiritual warfare and expressed loyalty by the organization leaders themselves.

    .

The UN/NGO joining is just another of the many elements of instilled corruption by the Watchtower Corporation in its long standing appearance as religious publishing house.

Since when have these guys been so anxious to get their facts straight that they are willing to risk a scandal to belong to an organization, just for its lending library?

  • disposable hero of hypocrisy

I don't get why they'd risk another scandal by immediately joining the osce? I don't know any details about the osce apart from what I've read in this thread but how could they weasel out of this one? Have they a limited membership or something? SURELY they're not stoopid enough to go and do exactly the same again? Or are they counting on us to be stoopid enough not to notice?

Or are they counting on us to be stoopid enough not to notice?

    .

Most JWs have no clue the WT was an NGO with the UN. The ones that do took WT's lame-assed explanation at face value and thought no more of it. So, really, what is WT risking? They absolutely count on the gullibility of the GB worshipping JWs who will never question "mother" and will rationalize away the actions of WT, no matter how absurd their conduct.

    .

WT is an NGO in the OSCE, the same relationship they had with the UN. A "limited membership" is irrelevant. WT has plainly stated that ANY association with an organization 'opposed to Jehovah's will' is unacceptable. To reiterate:

    *** w81 9/15 p. 23 par. 15 Disfellowshiping — How to View It ***

"Or, a person might renounce his place in the Christian congregation by his actions, such as by becoming part of an organization whose objective is contrary to the Bible, and, hence, is under judgment by Jehovah God. (Compare Revelation 19:17-21; Isaiah 2:4.) So if one who was a Christian chose to join those who are disapproved of God, it would be fitting for the congregation to acknowledge by a brief announcement that he had disassociated himself and is no longer one of Jehovah’s Witnesses."

    ---

By WTs own rule stated above, the GB in a very real sense, "disassociated" themselves from the Organization the moment they became an NGO with the UN and to a man should've been ousted from Brooklyn immediately.

Incidentally, tell the elders you, as a JW, have a "limited membership" at the local YMCA and see if that explanation is accepted.

Those quotes from the magazines are absolutely priceless. I love them the most in comparison to other means of reasoning as it's like using their own weapon against them. I'm looking forward to try to apply your suggestions and thanks for your contribution to this thread. I hope it also helps other readers of the forum.

jws are told not to believe non-jw organizations and media as the pawns of Satan, the ruler of the world. Anything or anyone that disagrees with the WTS will be not believed. The letter the UN posted on their site, was brief, factual but viewed as a lie. jws will believe the WTS regardless of "proof." The UN itself is seen as the scarlet-colored wild beast.

*** w12 9/15 pp. 4-5 par. 6 How This World Will Come to an End ***

God’s Word identifies the harlot’s attacker as a “wild beast” with “ten horns.” A study of the book of Revelation shows that the wild beast refers to the United Nations (UN). “The ten horns” represent all present political powers that support this “scarlet-colored wild beast.” (Rev. 17:3, 5, 11, 12) How devastating will the attack be? The nations of the UN will plunder the harlot’s wealth, expose her real character, devour her, and “completely burn her.” Her destruction will be final.Read Revelation 17:16.

    *** w03 3/1 p. 9 par. 6 ‘Be Courageous and Strong!’ ***

We also need courage when opposers maneuver the media into spreading bad reports about God’s servants or when they try to restrict true worship by scheming “trouble by decree.” (Psalm 94:20) For example, how should we feel when newspaper, radio, or television reports about Jehovah’s Witnesses are distortions or outright falsehoods? Should we be shocked? No. We expect such things. (Psalm 109:2) And we are not surprised when some believe the published lies and distortions, since “anyone inexperienced puts faith in every word.” (Proverbs 14:15) Still, loyal Christians refuse to believe just any statement made about their brothers, and they certainly do not allow bad publicity to cause them to miss Christian meetings, to slow down in the field ministry, or to waver in their faith. On the contrary, they “recommend [themselves] as God’s ministers . . . through glory and dishonor, through bad report and good report; as [according to opponents] deceivers and yet [in reality] truthful.”—2 Corinthians 6:4, 8.

Does the letter provide evidence that the contents of the library were unavailable to them if they didn't have NGO status?

Is there any evidence anywhere that the contents of the library were unavailable to them if they didn't have NGO status?

I'm not aware of any rules that would have denied them access to the library or the contents, only that they had to apply ahead for a day pass if they wanted to visit Dag Hammarskjöld. If that is correct, then there was no NEED to join and their excuse is BS. It is up to the person making the claim, that they needed membership for access, so it is up to them to prove it.
