in my old congregation, everyone seems clean. mostly chaste courtship, kingdom hall wedding, blah blah.

well there are lots of cases of fondling but they were soon forgotton. when my husband and i confessed to sex before marriage, the elders were disgusted. a year later tho, another couple fessed up.

are they really livin up to their puritan standard or are they hiding stuffs and being hypocrites? what about you and your old congregation?

I suspect there is an awful lot of hiding stuff that goes on. My wife was leading a total double life when I met and impregnated her otu of weldlock. Unfortunatley her rebelious streak ended when she got reinstated following her disfellowshipping.

I would estimate that, depending on various factors, 50-80% of JW kids are bonking each other (or kids "not in the truth") with a frequency that would make a brothel envious.

They only get caught because someone, somewhere, gets a guilty conscience & confeses. Then the dominoes start falling.

I know of groups of JW kids who slept with each other. I know of JW couples who swapped. It's not isolated at all. I believe more folks are doing what they want to do and are getting hip to not telling on themselves.

I know the Wt. thinks that sex does not exist but it does. We are born to have sex ie reproduce. Don't let those old elders fool you. They were young once and just as horny. They are just mad because they are not anymore. Young people have sex because they are hard wired to have sex. To sit around and condem them for it is like condeming a dog for having fleas. Instead of teaching their kids to have safe sex they just go around and think they are not thinking about it because after all God hates a person who has sex (even though that the way he made them) but that OK he still hates it. Among our peers, at least 90% who got married (and will discuss the subject openly after a few drinks) were all having sex. *

    * Unless you accept Bill Clinton's definition. Then only some of them were having sex and the rest of them were not.

That's not too surprising as there was a big issue in the past (late 60s/early 70s) about "penetration". So many felt that if there was no "penetration" is was "less of a sin" and didn't count. I think it was 1977 that the new definition light on "pornea" was released in the WT.

    wafflesandpancakes,

After reading some of the accounts on this board, I often get the feeling that the JWs I knew must have been a straight-laced lot!

But, yes, over a 28 year period and around a dozen different congregations, my observation was that their "puritanical standards" on this matter were adhered to. Hard, yes (and in my own case, bloody hard!), but conformed to they were.

My experience, anyway, with this vexatious matter!

    Bill.

The only ones I can remember (off the top of my head) that didn't fool around before marriage were the ones who weren't sexually attracted to each other. But...the guilt was severe and ruined their relationships.

Doesn't it make you long for Old Testament times? When the first time you have sex was the marriage. Made things so much simpler. And even ugly guys could just rape a virgin and then pay a couple of bucks.

Me and my husband did not, but he was 40 and I was 30. At that age one has a lot more self discipline than at 18. I'm not sure how I would have acted if we had been 18.
