It IS NOT THE JOB OF THE GOVERNMENT TO PROVIDE YOUR KIDS WITH EDUCATION.
Socialised education is as bad for democracy as socialised medicine.
Teach your own kids, if you cannot afford to pay a GOOD teacher. Same with a doctor - you cant pay one: that is NOT the Governments problem.

I suspect you are being sarcastic, having misjudged your comments before.

For the sake of argument however, Thomas Jefferson believed it was the job of the government to provide all with education. The better to preserve our democracy.

Who is this cartoonish old man? A Neo-marxist?

Oh, I thought everyone heard of George Carlin, the self proclaimed atheist comedian who routinely jokes about society and people. A man whose comedy is so funny because it sounds so scarily close to how things really are. I posted the full unedited skit here so you can see what he is talking about.

Hard to tell if he is really right but hard to deny the coincidences in what he is saying to what is observed (at least by me) in reality. Education getting progressively worse, problem solving skills in students seldom taught these days (more teaching to the test), more and more jobs are requiring education beyond high school, and more and more students just being herded through the school system like cattle. Meanwhile, the incomes of the middle class are largely stagnate or shrinking and the greater portion of the wealth going to the wealthy. It could all just be a series of coincidences having little to do with one another or...

    Resistence is futile,

    You blahered:

: I'm going to have to call bullsh*t on that claim as well. I can make up friends too. Let's just say that my imaginary friends that teach at prestigious universities say the exact opposite of your imaginary friends. Where does that leave us now? Oh yeah, looking for real facts or evidence.

Fool. I would be happy to name them, and as I said they are my friends. The first is Steven Cox, who runs the entire Humanities department at the University of California, San Diego. He is a well-known publisher of books and a worldwide authority on Ayn Rand and Isabel Patterson. He has written a number of books, and we have met and dined many times, all on his tab. He contacted me around 2,000 and invited me to lunch and encouraged me to write a book on the JW religion. He is a student of the JW religion, but he has never been one. Look up Steven Cox on the internet. He is pretty famous. Contact him. Ask him if he knows me. The next one I mentioned is David Farrally who used to post here as "Gedanken". He is a professor of quantum mechanics and teaches at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. That is where I met him. He also worked at Univerisity of California Berekly and Princeton and was a Professor at UCLA. We both collaborated on a web site called jwbloodreview.org. He has flown me to his home for Christmas where we exchanged ideas and a wonderful and traditional British Christmas dinner (he is a Brit.)

Hide and watch, folks. Despite being given all the information that Resistence is Futile needs to contact these two friends of mine, I will be a cup of coffee that it won't contact them, and even if it does, will not post an apology or retraction on this board for its slander about my reference to them. I will bet coffee and maybe even a cocktail for any takers on that one.

Check them both out. You've been posting here for what? 2 years? I've been posting here for 12 years. I have earned my creds. I don't make up shit. You haven't earned those creds and you haven't yet learned that I don't make up shit. My articles and essays have been translated into 5 other languages and spread around this planet. Can you say the same about your blather?

    Someone else said:

:An interesting statistic shows that even Utah with its excessively burdened education system ($ in allocation per student is one of the worst in the nation) has some of the best students.

I know. I was born and grew up and graduated High School in Utah. Salt Lake City, to be precise. I had a wonderful undergraduate education there. As screwed up as the Mormons are, they make sure their children receive the best education possible, as well as a rounded education in the fine arts, too.

    beks,

    You said:

Where did Jefferson say that was the job of the GOVERNMENT, particularly the FEDERAL Government? And where did he EVER talk about a democracy in this Country? We don't live in a democracy, oh clueless one. We live in a Republic and despite my countless times at pointing that out you, you still just don't get the difference between the two.

Capping this thread off, let the board note that "Resistence is Futile" has proved that it won't respond to FACTS, but doesn't mind hurling slander at me until it was called on its bullshit slander by me. (Still checking my references and friends, Mr. Futile?)

Bengaria also won't respond to FACTS. It made claims about Thomas Jefferson and when called to the carpet on it, somehow decided to take a vacation in the Bahamas, or something.

Why do the mudslinging, lazy-assed, non-researchers think that everyone will believe their nonsense without calling them on their nonsense? Not EVERYONE is as ill-educated as the dummies they are used to fooling with their bullshit, you know.

Capping this thread off, let the board note that "Resistence is Futile" has proved that it won't respond to FACTS

Specifically what facts are you referring to, and in your opinion what conclusion do those facts support?

Do you know the difference between anecdotal evidence and scientific evidence?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anecdotal_evidence

"Because of the small sample, there is a larger chance that it [anecdotal evidence] may be unreliable due to cherry-picked or otherwise non-representative samples of typical cases. Anecdotal evidence is considered dubious support of a claim; it is accepted only in lieu of more solid evidence. This is true regardless of the veracity of individual claims".

"Anecdotal evidence is also frequently misinterpreted via the availability heuristic, which leads to an overestimation of prevalence. Where a cause can be easily linked to an effect, people overestimate the likelihood of the cause having that effect (availability). In particular, vivid, emotionally-charged anecdotes seem more plausible, and are given greater weight. A related issue is that it is usually impossible to assess for every piece of anecdotal evidence, the rate of people not reporting that anecdotal evidence in the population".

You seemed to miss my somewhat crudely made point about your professor friends. Seeing that I've offended your apparently sensitive internet honor, I will apologize. Even if you had made up your "evidence" I should have been a little more tactful in pointing it out. Again it should be said that you missed the larger point I was making, it would be a mistake to draw an inference about the total population of educators based on the informal survey you've conducted of two or three educators. Your survey pretty much tells us nothing due to the woefully inadequate sampling size as well as the bias introduced into the survey (only collecting the opinions of your friends).

Farkel, where did you get the statistics in your opening post from? Was that the complete list of questions included in the survey, or were the questions the students did well on left off your final list?

Is there any particular reason you're refusing to cite the source for the claims made in your opening post?
