They deliberately isolate themselves socially and mentally from others, so any pop culture info they have is antiquated.

Also, IMO there is a twinge of narcissism in the jw mentality, so everything that doesn't directly involve them is ignored.

Rattigan350 - "And how about the continued use of the book by "Dr Spock" where he criticizes the spanking of children from the 1960s."

Oh, God, don't get me started.

I swear, some of those old-timers talked about the guy like he was the spawn of Satan himself.

And marriage counselors. According to the wt speakers, all these highly trained specialists do is tell you to get divorced. Ok if that were true, they wouldn't be in work long: 1 consultation is all each client would ever need! And people go to counselors to try to save their marriages so if they got that advice they'd find other advice. Counselors don't make a living by telling everyone to get divorced! There's more money and satisfaction in working with people to help them for a period of time than a simple answer like that! Shows how clueless these wt twats are about how things actually work.

    NeverKnew:

The reason they have to use the word "fornication" is because they aren't going to say the other "F" word.

I don't believe I was ever really in a "chat room". I was never on My Space either. Wow, I guess I missed out on a lot in the 1990s.

This is only tangentielly related, but how many of you have heard of a "the - AY - ter" in a talk?

As in "some teenagers are sneakin' off to the the - AAY - ter without any adult supervision!"

It's like these old dudes think "I'll appear to be hip & youthful if I say the - AY - ter instead of theater."

    Idiots.

What the? But it reminds me of how they'd mention last decade's fashions when talking about how terribly kids dress, ie midriffs showing etc...well, girls haven't shown midriffs in years! And baggy pants are out for boys in most places too, but these old fools never actually sit and observe people and what they actually look like because what they put in their talk 8 years ago was 'truth' then...but truth changes apparently...
