Mrscedars, this is one of the most powerfully composed articles on the topic of the Watchtower's response to child abuse.

I noticed that the letter from the Watchtower does not dare tell JW parents not to inform the relevant secular authorities if their child discloses abuse by a JW - yet it reminds bodies of elders that parents have the main responsibility for their child's safety.

That being the case, JW parents should take very, very seriously the Watchtower's statement and act in accord with it. Since the letter declares that parents have the main responsibility for their child's safety, then JW parents should take action by notifying the relevant authorities - not the elders - because to notify the elders is to have their parental responsibility minimized.

As the Faithful & Discreet Slave has always been associated in JW minds with the Governing Body, I don't think this new change will register anything. I can see the anointed feeling slighted though.

Thanks Mrs C and thanks to mr C for writing it. I don't think the majority of the R&F will have a problem accepting this 'new light'. I think many of them won't even notice a difference.. It's sickening..

well this takes care of the ever growing number of partakers. This years number must be big. So now that the partakers outside the GB have been kicked to the curb, next year's number might as well be 4 million because it won't matter

The saddest thing to me is that the vast majority of dubs won't question, consider, or even think about this stuff. They will accept it unquestioningly either because they want to (clinging to 'the truth' whatever that happens to be today) or because they are too scared to qestion because of what they've got to lose.

That is no way to live.

A relative few will most likely be pushed into an awakened state and ferreted out .... but I imagine most will accept this whole heartedly as truth ... and unfortunately according to Festinger's Cognitive Dissonance Theory, it is probably the expected result.
