The reason "some were led to believe" it because that is what the WTBTS leadership said!

    • WTBTS = Leaders
    • R&F JWs = Followers

The leaders led and the followers followed like the good little sheep they are. The problem is the "followers" thought they were following "God's Organization." They thought they were following God's direction. Obviously they weren't.

Way to take responsibility WTBTS. Some "mouth of God"!

Let's review, it's a cult. They are liars.

1975 was what the Watchtower wanted you to conclude that it might be while they were almost saying it would be.

They hinted, they pointed and giggled. They praised jumping to false conclusions.

They escorted minds to an empty field and described what could fill it. We, the faithfully goofy, stood with

silly grins as the wind swept bits of newspaper and debris around us and the emptiness.

It was as though 7 million people chanted gleefully "We are stupid asses tra-la-la".

And then, we went out and convinced as many other nitwits as we could. We used the bible and the world's events.

We used sincere nonsense to connect dots that weren't there.

And now, others look back getting wrong the getting-it-wrong with equal stupidity and conviction that was ours!

The more things change the more they stay the same.

I wondered how many jws there were in 1977, 2,223,538, less than in 1976 (2,248,390). almost 25,000 walked away.

*** yb78 p. 32 1978 Yearbook of Jehovah’s Witnesses ***Kingdom preaching activity from 216 countries under the supervision of 96 branches reached a peak of 2,223,538 publishers. This was a decrease when compared with the year 1976.

*** yb77 p. 23 1977 Yearbook of Jehovah’s Witnesses ***This year there was a peak of 2,248,390 Kingdom publishers reporting service activities.

The Watchtower included all disappointed ones of Jehovah’s Witnesses, hence including persons

having to do with the publication of the information that contributed to the buildup of hopes centered

    on that date.

I remember this excerpt from the 1980 Watchtower magazine.

It gives with one hand, but takes away with the other:

I have always been amused by its combination of seeming to acknowledge that Watchtower writers contributed to the buildup of hopes and very awkward wording; i.e., "...hence including persons having to do with the publication of the information that contributed to the buildup of hopes centred on that date".

Why didn't they just state that "some Watchtower writers also contributed to the buildup of hope....."?

Oh, while that might have been more accurate, it would also be far too candid, calling into question how closely (or not) Jehovah guides the organization.

aren't we so thankfull that did not happen?"

What circular reasoning. If we are greatful the end the not come then, won't a whole new group of JW's be equally happy the end did not come in 2050 etc etc. There will always be the newly baptised grateful the end did not come before they got their chance of salvation.

    My line exactly!

Besides, if you asked all those now long deceased "faithful" witnesses of Jehovah who forwent careers, earthly possessions (including home ownership) and families if they are grateful the end has not yet arrived, you'd better make room for a torrent of disgust at the Watchtower Society's trigger-happy mentality. I watched my paternal JW grandmother die a very slow, painful death over several months in 1980. She had lived her entire adult life, first as a Bible Student then a JW fully expecting the end to be just around the corner. How dare the so-called "loving" brothers talk about our gratefulness that the long-awaited end has still not arrived. Foolish men speaking foolish and thoughtless words.

    So true Jwfacts

The WTS. will always have a proverbial carrot at an end of stick to maintain devoted supportive followers.

I was 21 years old in 75 . I believed it was coming and I would mosy likely not make it.....it was very scary...I tried not to think about it. My mom talked about it all the time. Now when I bring up 1975,

she says " Oh, I never REALLY thought it was going to happen in 1975 ".......... My response " Well it sure would have been nice if you would have TOLD me that "...duh

We know the truth.......lol Scary Sherry

some were led to believe that the end would come in 1975

So there was a leader, and followers. Who was the leader leading them to believe "the end would come in 1975"?
