Why do the Witnesses keep mentioning how many people were at the Memorial at their hall?

Because they want more people to endorse their own stupidity! It's the "we can't ALL be wrong" mentality.

To me at least with the JWs it is all about the numbers, and if the numbers no longer support what they are trying to say, fudge the numbers or drop the importance of the numbers.

    Magazines placed

    Studies started

    Hours spent in the field

    Number of magazines circulated

Number of languages the publication is available in

    Memorial attendance

Memorial partakers (this is a number that may be dropped since it continues to increase)

Hours required to aux pioneer, pioneer etc (has become less due to the desire to increase the number)

What else can they brag about? How many homeless people they help? How many people they feed? How their contributions to medical research have improved the lives of [insert disease of choice] patients? How many women and children they save from abuse? How many alcoholics or drug abusers they've helped?

"No" to all the above. The only thing they give two $h!ts about is Memorial attendance, so that's all they have to boast about.

Truer words have never been spoken (or typed in this case).

They love to make things sound like a success.
If you have 100 active recruiters and you had 200 in attendance, it sounds like something to be proud of.

They don't even count the fact that 70 of them are children or family members that come all the time and 28 of them are "studies" that come all the time, leaving 2 that were new in some way.

Supposedly some see it as potential growth. But few are actually studying; most are non-jw spouses and relatives, occasionally a neighbor or curious coworker, many people come only to the memorial to appease family and "friends" and the elders. They are called submarine witnesses, who surface only once a year. Some jws hope that this meeting will kick start inactive family and friends, but they are not seen until next year. Like going to one meeting a year guarantees salvation at Armageddon.

    submarine Witness
A low-profile and often spiritually weak Christian who is rarely found participating in the day-to-day activities of the congregation, surfacing only for the {Memorial}, assemblies, {CO}'s visit, and of course for parties, where there will be food that others provide.

    I agree with OTWO.

Very few of the extras at the memorial were new to the organisation. In our small hall we always got about 60 more. Around 5 were completely new faces.

    Scully and OTWO..

They worship numbers. That's the only thing they go by. Field service hours, studies, RV's, this # of years in the "truth". It's all about the numbers.
