Undercover, I seriously suspect that it's more than just having one's mind opened that the Watchtower Corporation fears....

I made the comment earlier - either on this thread or a similar one - that the Watchtower Corporation would view higher education as especially heinous for women...

It not only would increase their awareness of outside information; it would also increase their income, which would probably give them financial independence.

Which would also remove them from the situation of the typical unmarried Jehovah's Witness female, who often ends up in desperate poverty - or desperately looking for a JW mate.

The presence of a mere female with a higher level of education than most elders, could cause all sorts of insurrection and "uppity" ambitions in the other 'wimmin' in the KH...

"I’ve been studying to be a Jehovah’s Witness, so I go to Kingdom Hall,” she told S2S Publisher Jamie Foster Brown."

    DJEggnobb???

What is it about the grammar of Serena's statement that gives you the confidence to state that she is a baptised Jehovah's Witness????

Put aside the generic JW waffle and character assassination and answer the question.

You were the one claiming they were baptised. It's up to you to provide some evidence. Have you got dates? places? witnesses?

My understanding is that both of these women are Jehovah's Witnesses.

I think perhaps you didn't appreciate what I was telling you, that I'm not willing to answer your questions about either of these two woman. Whether you believe me or not won't change what they are, and whatever their standing is before God, this isn't any of your business, is it?

    @slimboyfat:

Or they could be unbaptised Witnesses, of course.

They could be unbaptized publishers, but I believe them both to have been baptized Witnesses. There is no such thing as an "unbaptized Witness."

To the original poster, I hope you go and finish your education! forget the wt and their silly rules, they will probably change at some point anyway.

"unbaptized publisher"- my jw used to call himself that when he first joined up and often refers to the William sisters as that if we discuss what great jw's they are like when they are draped in the US flag or in their 'modest' outfits they like to wear. In those cases he says they are not 'real' jw's because we don't know if they are baptized or not so he calls them 'unbaptized publishers'. Ever send a jw a pic of one of the sisters? the jw gets quite offended and asks why you are sending them porn! did that once to make a point and naturally it didn't go over well, but hey! it his spiritual sister right? I wanted to know if the girls in his kh were allowed to dress like that without being df'd but never really got an answer.

How does the rest of the world look at it? they do not know or care if one is baptized or not, if you go to a kh and claim to believe what the jw's teach you ARE a jw. It is only within jw land that such distinctions are made.

What does the IFB church teach that differs from what Jehovah's Witnesses teach, @garyneal?

Well, doctrinally speaking, there are things that the IFB church teaches that differ from the witnesses but there are also a lot of similarities doctrinally.

However, the doctrines are not the main reasons why I get those same eery feelings at the Kingdom Halls that I use to get in an IFB church. Both the witnesses and the IFB's basically teach a lot of rules that tend to go above and beyond the Bible, and these rules change frequently or they apply special exceptions in certain cases or when it pertains to certain people.

You see an elder that has a college degree as being a hypocrite if he should make inquiry as to the decision to go to college, but I do not. The elder that makes such an inquiry should be doing this out of concern for the person's spiritual welfare, especially if the person will be leaving the congregation to attend college, and the can certainly be of help to the person in finding and getting situated with a congregation near the college that they will be attending since it is a fact that meeting attendance can and does suffer a little when one is enrolled as a full time student in college.

While I can see your point and if indeed the elder was sincerely trying to find a KH close to the college, I suppose that may be ok. But if the elder kept pushing meeting attendance and kept saying that I needed to make all my meetings, I may find it a little unrealistic given the circumstances. If said elder had a college degree then I would be curious what he did while in college. If he got his degree before he came into the 'truth' then I would not even qualify him to be my 'judge.'

You see, the IFB churches have a tendency to discourage secular education too in favor of going to Christian colleges and Bible colleges. One pastor even stated that he hoped that a the young girls going to church would eventually go to Bible college and become preacher's wives. At least they don't harass you if you do choose to attend college though, unless of course it hinders you from attending church Sunday morning, Sunday nights, and Wednesday nights and soul winning.

Join the club! When I went back to college there were several family members and "friends" stopped talking to me, then there were ones that talked to me but made it clear they didn't want to discuss my education endeavors. I also noticed that I was not called on during the Watchtower study and there were many comments with anti education thoughts interwoven. I have to say this was the beginning of my mental exit and made it easier to give up my family. Don't let any of them stop you from pursuing your dreams! NMKA

Ok, here is my reply to your college situation. I grew up around the 'truth' and started at 15 as an unbaptized publisher. I took the whole pitcher of kool aid. I didn't go to college after high school; instead I worked at the local wal-mart. I aux pioneered from time to time. I was appointed a MS and married a PIO. I got into management and no long qualified somehow to be a MS when I moved. I later got into law enforcement. I went back to college, on and off. I earned my Associate's degree in May 2011 and now I am 40 years old working on my BA in history. Hope to earn my MA too so I can teach at community colleges and online colleges.

I wasted 20 years in the 'truth'. If I had followed my gut and stayed with college in 1999, I would have a PhD by this point. Don't make the same mistake I did. Don't live your life for an organization that will use you up and then throw you out with tomorrow's trash. Have a life, go to college, make something of yourself, have children if you want. God's love does not start and end with any man made organization, no matter how much they tell you it's God directed, or whatever they are saying these days. We still don't have any savings to speak of, because the end of the world was coming any day, why save money because it was going to be worthless someday. Don't fall into that trap.

Obviously, if you are/were pioneering, this is quite a shock to you. They mean for it to be a shock to your system; they want to snap you back into line.

The WTS publishing corporation has always demeaned higher education to its followers/readers for two important reasons, one being that

higher education usually teaches students information that the WTS. doesn't teach such as ( science and biological evolution ).

They've actually come right and said Universities and Colleges are places of godless evil.

They also said why go and get a higher education when this system of things is about to end anyways ?

They much have there followers preaching ( going door to door ) proliferating their literature to the public.
