The great unanswered question - WHO chose the Governing Body to serve as representatives?

I thought they were supposed to "feed the sheep" and look after the Lord's "interests" on earth, but if they will not give answers to matters of concern to the sheep, I repeat, what are they for ?

Phizzy - for me, this year was a turning point. The reason given in the Q from R for no longer answering people who write in with questions was "insufficient resources". One can then legitimately ask: "If the Governing Body now lacks sufficient resources to issue spiritual food on a personal basis, does this mean that Jehovah is no longer blessing their efforts?"

WTS Lore: Anointed are chosen by God by holy spirit, only the individual can attest to that.

GB members are all anointed as above. They are chosen the same way the WTS says that elders are chosen by the BOE. The GB chooses new members in the same political way as in the congregation.

Thanks Blondie - you would think if it's so simple(?!) that the GB would have the guts to come out and say it in print! As has been mentioned, God's servants in the past have never missed an opportunity to clarify precisely where they got their authority from.

In other words, they are SELF APPOINTED, not Spirit Anointed.

The ruse is that Jesus chose CT Russell to be the FDS in 1918-1919. But that has been completely deconstructed from every logical standpoint, the result that it has been completely exposed as the utterly ridiculous doctrine that it is.

Later, during Rutherford's watch, the FDS concept was reworked to mean all the anointed. That has more or less has been the elastic concept used to this day. It was in the '70s, during Knorr's presidency, that the GB came into existence. According to Ray Franz, Knorr was not receptive to the arrangement, but more or less capitulated to the power struggle.

The Watchtower of December 15, 1971 was the first to unambiguously capitalize the term "Governing Body of Jehovah's witnesses" as the defined group leading the religion, with a series of articles explaining its role and its relationship with the Watch Tower Society.

This was followed with a bunch of revisionist history articles making claims that "a governing body made its appearance" some time after the formation of Zion's Watch Tower Society in 1884, though it had not been referred to as such at the time. The article claimed that Watch Tower Society president Charles Taze Russell had been a member of the governing body.

Only a few months ago the Governing Body made this surprising admission:

"We thus have no way of knowing the exact number of anointed ones on earth; nor do we need to know. The Governing Body does not keep a list of all partakers, for it does not maintain a global network of anointed ones." - Question From Readers, w2011 8/15 p. 22 - Emphasis added

To any reasoning, thinking individual this completely belies their claims of being representatives of the "Faithful and Discreet Slave" class; they don't even know who the anointed are for Christ's sake!

The reason you can't find any concrete statement in any of the Society's publications clearly explaining WHO exactly authorized/appointed/selected/chose the Governing Body to serve in this capacity, and by extension selected the individual members to serve on it, is because they don't want anyone to know the simple truth: They chose themselves and each other.

They just keep putting up the front of it all being done by Holy Spirit issued forth from and invisible God that had delegated this work to his equally invisible Son, who by the way has been ruling invisibly since 1914 don't you know ... evidently!

    It's all a complete con-game.

Holy Spirit ... and that is why it is pointless to argue the question ... no way to prove ... disagree and you are an apostate.

JW's already accept the reference where apostles and older men settled the account of circumcision and sent their decision out to the congregations as proof of a governing body. So, from that reasoning, all first century Christians are said to have been anointed, they didn't keep a list of all of them at that time, there is no record that they were part of some democratic arrangement in selecting the first century governing body ... it is the result of Holy Spirit ... case closed.

    They did !

Who chose the GB of the Mormon church

    They did !

Who chose the GB of the Free Masons

    They did !

    Get it.

All these organizations are power organizations constructed by individuals themselves.

Money, in theirs and their members pockets, appointed them. Without capital the Watchtower would not be.

Cedars, as you know, I'm totally with you on this. The GB are just a bunch of con artists playing a theological shell game. Instead of "where's the peanut?" it's "Who really is the FDS?" and instead of cups they use confusing, incoherent, shape-shifting definitions cloaked in mystical, religious language.

That being said, I'm supposing that--assuming you could ever actually ask one of them this question--they would take exception to the particular definitions of REPRESENTATIVE which you chose to focus on. Instead they would say let's look at these:

    adjective

1 typical of a class, group, or body of opinion; or

    noun

2 an example of a class or group

They fit these definitions of REPRESENTATIVE perfectly. It is your (and mine as well) false assumption that the FDS is or should be involved in the selection process. "Remember Brother, it is Holy Spirit that does the anointing, not mere humans!"

Come to think of it, it's quite ironic that their headquarters are located right next to the Brooklyn Bridge considering that particular bridge is legendary in American culture for its association with naive gullibility and in connection with ideas that strain credulity. It is eponymous with being "sold a bag of goods!"

I guess the joke's on all us poor fools that fell for it.
