    Getting back to the OP--

It is not anything like a normal religion. It controls every aspect of your life, including what you do in your free time, the music you listen to, what you do in your bedroom (see link at #91), etc. It also controls your medical decisions and whether or not you can accept lifesaving medical care for yourself and your children/husband.

Apologies if this seems like a naive thing to say, but if I reconcile being gay with God and ask for his forgiveness, is that not adequate?

    Not in Watchtower world, Jack.

To them, you are one of the ones in the pic I posted, getting your beans for your sinful behaviour.

Jack that would be a reasonable proposition outside of the JW paradigm.

As you can see from Maze's post whilst JWs do not believe they are bigots they do not allow people who practice homosexuality to become a witness or stay witnesses. In this religion you cannot reconcile your sexuality with God it is not between God and you. The society interprets God's requirements and insists that people constrain themselves to sex within the traditional marriage.

Homosexuals who wish to become witnesses cannot be in a gay relationship of any kind, they would either need to marry or practice abstinence. So whilst it is true that witnesses do preach to all people, some people have to make significant sacrifices to join the group.

    Does it not say this?

"And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven."

    matthew 12:31

From where in the bible can it be quoted that I will not be forgiven for being gay?

Black Sheep, almost all religions have apocalyptic teachings of one kind or another and let us not forget the infamous Hellfire doctrine that punishes the unrighteous. Are you really saying Jehovah's Witnesses clarify and give new meaning to Armageddon? If not, what are you saying?

Or the infamous teaching that all NonJWs regardless of their works being more loving than the average JW, are still going to be destroyed forever at Armageddon, unless they recognized the Watchtower and several old men of European descent and one token black as God's annointed mouthpiece here on the earth.

The basics: It's an apocalyptic, religious cult.

    No Room For George

For illustration purposes to summarize in a nutshell, the JW's beliefs about nonJWs. If you don't recognize the authority given to these men, in this picture, you're toast at Armageddon. Your children are toast, your parents if they don't recognize the authority of the men in this picture, are toast. Countries where people have never seen or heard of these men in this picture, are toast. Recognizing the authority of these men entails quite a lot as Rebel8 highlighted in her post. If a JW marries a nonJW, and the nonJW doesn't eventually become a JW, its been said that the JW is married to a corpse. That has been stated from platforms by men such as the ones in this picture to audiences where JWs attend assemblies for encouragement.

Jackal, I hope you know what you're doing getting involved with a JW. By the way, and JW that gets involved with a nonJW is setting him or herself ont he road to being toast because they've disobeyed the direction as given by the men in the picture.

Maze the churches taught that the wicked go to hell but the righteous go to heaven. JWs teach that only JWs will be saved but everyone else regardless of the good they do will be destroyed at Armageddon. Billions and billions of people destroyed.

Neither explanation is humane or better than the other. Both are equally squalid and unpleasant.
