Maze - what are you babbling about?

What made the slave class happy, according to the WTS' book, was being selected by Jesus. The 'slave class' at the time had no clue about this until years afterward. That makes the book's statement a falsehood - especially when the writer should have known his history.

In the interest of making this more of a discussion instead of simply quoting things that the WT Society has gotten wrong. Let's say that Stand Firm's logic holds true. One does not lie if they don't know they're lying. This brings a couple interesting questions:

Can a group be false prophets if they believe what they're teaching?

The bible says that if someone says something is going to happen but then it doesn't in the name of the Lord they are false prophets. So if the theory about lying is correct then that could also apply for False Prophets and therefore all those religions that JWs talk about teaching incorrect things they wouldn't be false prophets or part of Babylon the Great because they believed these things to be true.

On top of that, if Satan didn't know that God was going to kick Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden then he wasn't lying when he said "You positively will not die, upon eating from the tree you will become like God knowing good and evil." God later confirmed this in Chapter 3 of Genesis. So therefore according to Stand Firm's argument Satan isn't the father of the lie.

    Thoughts?

StandingFirm needs to research the society a bit more and will clearly see that they lie.

In the Bible Teach book on pages 84 & 85. It says:

22 When Jesus told his followers to pray, “Let your kingdom come,” it was clear that the Kingdom had not come at that time. Did it come when Jesus ascended to heaven? No, because both Peter and Paul said that after Jesus was resurrected, the prophecy at Psalm 110:1 was fulfilled in him: “The utterance of Jehovah to my Lord is: ‘Sit at my right hand until I place your enemies as a stool for your feet.’” ( Acts 2:32-34 ; Hebrews 10:12, 13 ) There was a waiting period.

23 For how long? During the 19th century, sincere Bible students calculated that the waiting period would end in 1914. (Regarding this date, see the Appendix pages 215-218.) World events that began in 1914 confirm that the calculation of these sincere Bible students was correct. The fulfillment of Bible prophecy shows that in 1914, Christ became King and God’s heavenly Kingdom began to rule.

In paragraph 23 mentioned above, there is an important omission and another lie. The Bible students (Russell) calculated that the waiting period ended in 1874. Omitted is that they also calculated a 40 year harvest ending in 1914 with the end of the system, collapse of world governments and war of Armageddon. So the world events beginning in 1914 show the calculations to be incorrect. Yet another lie. It even passes the limited definition of a lie, as put forth by StandingFirm. The writers of this book and other literature have access to all of the past writings of the society and would know exactly what was calculated and predicted. If I was able to spot that discrepency, and I am an untrained layman, then those celebrated scholars would be very aware of their deception.

If StandingFirm somehow make a convincing case that they were unaware that the earlier writings were different, then he still has a big problem. It would indicate that the writers and editors of society publications are incompetent researchers and are apparently unqualified to produce Bible teaching materials.

Watchtower 1966 February 15 p.103 “For over thirty years before that date and for half a century since, Jehovah’s witnesses have pointed to the year 1914 as the time for the end of “the appointed times of the nations” and the time in which Christ would begin his Kingdom rule. (Luke 21:24)”

    Compare that statement with:

Prophecy (1929) p.65 “The scriptural proof is that the second presence of the Lord Jesus Christ began in 1874 A.D.

    and

The Scriptures show that the second presence [of the Lord] was due in 1874 .. This proof shows that the Lord has been present since 1874" (WT Mar 1 1923, pg 67)

    This one is great too:

The constellation of the Pleiades is a small one compared with others, which scientific instruments disclose to the wondering eyes of man. But the greatness in size of other stars or planets is small when compared with the Pleiades in importance, because the Pleiades is the place of the eternal throne of God.

If that isn't lying, I don't know what is.

The Watchtowers LIE that stumbled me:

“Now that the long-expected Kingdom had become an established reality in heaven surely its growing interests would not be left in the hands of a novice organization of spiritual babes. And that proved to be true. It was the 1900-year-old ‘faithful and discreet slave,’ the old Christian congregation, that was entrusted with this precious Kingdom service.”
    The Watchtower, July 15, 1960, p. 436

When they wrote this they were FORCED to LIE and say" and that "proved to be true..the faithful and discreet slave class has been sitting here for 1900 years and jesus entrusted IT "

EXCUSE ME?? No proof given for Russell joining any Slave Class its just "take our word for it, it happened"

Already during the Hitler regime about 1,000 Jehovah’s witnesses were executed as traitors, because they not only refused to serve in the war but openly opposed Hitler’s authority. Another 1,000 of Jehovah’s witnesses died in prisons and concentration camps,

That is why during the Nazi regime in Germany from 1933 to 1945 Jehovah’s witnesses in that land refused to heil Hitler! as their Fuehrer or Leader, and went to concentration camps and prisons, where 2,000 died cruel deaths, and of the 8,000 that came out alive, 2,000 were invalided for the rest of their lives.

19 Hitler, a Roman Catholic, the arm of his church in Germany, forbade Jehovah’s witnesses to preach the kingdom of God, and these modern-day Christians had to say to Hitler’s Gestapo police: ‘Whether it is righteous in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, judge for yourselves.’ They kept preaching even though 10,000 of them were put in concentration camps and over 4,000 died there. The rest nearly starved to death. The war’s end aided their survival.

But despite the hard conditions, how those who worshiped Jehovah rejoiced! They had been privileged to prove their integrity to the Sovereign Ruler of the universe. During Hitler’s rule 1,687 of them had lost their jobs, 284 their businesses, 735 their homes and 457 were not allowed to carry on their trade. In 129 cases their property had been confiscated, 826 pensioners had been refused their pensions and 329 others had suffered other personal loss. There were 860 children who had been taken away from their parents. In 30 cases marriages had been dissolved due to pressure by political officials, and in 108 cases divorces had been granted when requested by mates opposed to the truth. A total of 6,019 had been arrested, several two, three or even more times, so that, all together, 8,917 arrests were registered. All together they had been sentenced to serve 13,924 years and two months in prison, two and a quarter times as long as the period since Adam’s creation. A total of 2,000 brothers and sisters had been ut into concentration camps, where they had spent 8,078 years and six months, an average of four years. A total of 635 had died in prison, 253 had been sentenced to death and 203 of these had actually been executed. What a record of integrity!
