The worst meeting I attended was right after I had gone to the elders and told them I had kissed a guy when I was still only separated from my husband... (although it had been almost two years that we had been apart). The elders took their time meeting with me after I confessed.

We had the C.O. visit that week. He gave a talk and vehemently condemned as treacherous anyone who would do such a thing. I was in total shock and stabbed to the heart. I couldn't believe the elders would tell the C.O. and he would work it into his talk!

I ended up sobbing hysterically in the washroom. I was devastated and was going to have the words "TREACHEROUS" tattooed across my chest!

When the elders met with me and I told them how I felt they assured me they had done no such thing and had disclosed nothing.

But for me that was the most devastating meeting ever. I had already sobbed on the floor begging Jehovah for forgiveness just the day previous to the meeting.

Looking back, it was probably a coincidence... at least I'm choosing to believe that... but it was just the most sickening feeling, hearing those words come out of the C.O's mouth.

    Interesting Topic,

The worse meeting I ever had to attend was a public talk on the subject of sex in the marriage. I was a mic boy/aspiring Ministerial servant by that point, but even my "right' to get up during meetings and walk around in the back couldn't save me then.

It was so serious, so dry, so uncomfortable it was by far the worst meeting i had to ever endure. He spoke at length about the purpose of sex in a marriage and how wives shouldn't deny their husbands while at the same time husbands shouldn't pester their wives into have sex...especially during their periods.

Usually when Oral or Anal were mentioned in a meeting, it was extremely fleeting and not dwelled upon. Not this time, he did the whole 'porniea" spiel and went on to describe several types of sexual acts.

The WORST thing about all this is that the following Saturday during field ministry, the Prosiding Overseer just had to tell me that all of the public talks given were handpicked by him based on the needs of the congregation...

The ones bashing fornication, and marrying worldly people, were for me the worst. What is wrong with fornication? To me, this is as wrong as test-driving a car. Even promiscuous sex is not wicked--perhaps molesting a child because you get your kicks out of ruining their lives is wicked, but not two grown people having sex that are not married to each other and both in the cancer.

Other things I simply viewed as time wasters.

    Hmmmmm, the worst meeting....

Maybe it was the one where there were only 27 people (including children) in the KH, all the elders were on vacation, the speaker didn't show up, and an MS brought out a cassette player, set it on a stool on the platform so that those of us who had dragged ourselves (and our children) out in the SoCal heat into a KH where they refused to turn on the AC, could sit for an hour listening to this mechanical representative of Jehovah.

Or maybe it was the one where my then-husband was announced as DF'd at the end of the Service Meeting and, right after the closing prayer, the family of the one of the elders on his committee surrounded me and kept pressuring me to let my teen aged son come to work for them because, as they put it, he was now the head of the house. When I objected that working for them would mean he would no longer be able to auxilliary pioneer they said the money was more important.

Or maybe it was another meeting that same summer when, due to to the extreme heat in the KH, my youngest was uncharacteristically fussy and I decided to leave the meeting to take her home where she could be more comfortable. It was only after I was at my car and ready to drive away that the elders came out and asked if there was anything they could do to help me stay for the rest of the meeting.

It could have been after my auto accident (hit and run that totalled my car) when we were walking to the KH (in the heat) and the PO told me that he and his wife (no kids, three cars for two people) decided to take the freeway to the meetings so they wouldn't see us walking.

Keep your eyes on the prize...

It's hard to think of ones that stand out actually, they tend to blend into a mass of mind numbing boringness. I suppose there is the public talk where the brother talked about anal and oral sex for near enough the full 45 minutes. And then all the meetings where otherwise intelligent and thoughtful people would come out with the most utter nonsense about how we must obey the faithful slave/disfellowshipping is a loving arrangement/the world doesn't understand what's going on only we understand.

I suppose some of the worst meetings I attended were the book studies where we did the Daniel and Isaiah books. I had just discovered how 1914 was a load of rubbish but couldn't say anything about it to anyone for fear of being chucked out. Week after week it was about 1914 and I just got fed up with it. That's when I stopped attending the meetings regularly.

I prefer to think of my best meeting ever, the JC meeting where they DF'ed after spending two hours grilling me on my apostate views and changing the subject everytime I used the bound volumes and the bible to make my points and where, by the end, they wouldn't let me use the bible (I hadn't brought one so they lent me one and retracted it later).

I remember the mandatory 10 minute waiting period outside being all pissed that there was a small chance they might not DF me. My wish, however, was granted and I walked out happy.

I think it was back in 1988. I had just decided to go back to school to get my design degree and I had also decided that I had had enough of the organization and had stopped going to the meetings. My mother talked me into going to the Sunday talk and watchtower study. I was bored out of my mind and it's a wonder I didn't fall asleep during the snoozefest. After the meeting my mother introduced me to a young "sister" and then said wouldn't it be nice if the sister could study with me. It was a set up and I had to say a firm no thank you to the offer. My mother was embarrassed and the young sister didn't know what to say. I never went to another meeting with my mother...or anyone else for that matter.
