Well, yes I can argue that it has been abused by organizations, yes.
Which is strange because the very wording shows that one is NOT bound by ANY organization and that the "burden" of undertanding falls on US.
Not so strange. The process goes
"OK, the bible says the Holy Spirit will be my guide"
"OK, I've asked for the Holy Spirit, but I don't feel it."
"All these other people say that they feel it, maybe I should see what they are all about."
Then the group-think hive-mind deception takes over. If you put people in a room together, and one of them claims he sees something in the woods, eventually they'll all claim to see the same thing, even if it isn't there, just so they don't seem odd. Even if the new convert doesn't feel "the Holy Spirit", he feels something, so he'll claim that he does because everyone else is doing it. Really he's just happy to be a part of something and feel that acceptance.
