qualifications for elder are listed in the bible....HOWEVER...imperfect men cannot read hearts or see what goes on behind closed doors...so while they are appointed by jehovah and his spirit guided bible,,,,MISTAKES ARE MADE....why god allows this is beyond me....

Actually, the GB don't even review anything but delegate it to non-anointed men at Bethel. And they don't read the reports from that congregation's elders. The GB erred in appointing Ray Franz, supposedly.

Your are telling me mistakes are made. The majority of the elders are self serving, ambitious, nepotistic hypocrites. There are some who really want to serve the congregation but in my experience they are the minority.

- Got caught surfing porn religiously by their wives
- Was having a gay affair while still the WT conductor
- Had a business meeting at a strip club
- Confessed to having cyber affairs
- Defended gambling and smoking cigars.
- Are flamming alcoholics

It is a system that was supposedly set up by the HS and that is all it is. THE WT implies that the HS has vetted every brother to make sure no bad ones get appointed. In reality, it is a human decision and the WT org just rubber stamps the appointees- why even Charlie Manson could have made it as an elder, if he had gone through the motions at the KH and done a good job of lying.
Peaches is giving the censored answer that JWs give, as it is easy to prove that elders are not appointed by Jehovah. But, the Watchtower says otherwise. Elders are said to be directly appointed by holy spirit as well as on the basis of Bible principles.
"Under the direction of the holy spirit, Branch Committees recommend mature, spiritual men to serve as circuit and district overseers. After being appointed directly by the Governing Body, they serve as traveling overseers. … Traveling overseers submit reports to the branch office. This is total garbage. I have known numerous people practicing all manner of Watchtower sins (such as active homosexuals) that have been appointed to positions.
