Elder uses Congregation Bible Study as an opportunity to ban the movie Avatar

Last night, during the Congregation Bible Study, the conductor (overseer?) used this as a platform to say that the movie Avatar is of Satan and no Christians should see it.

He said that he googled the (original) meaning of the word Avatar and it was of Hindu religious origin. This was all the information he needed to conclude that the movie was full of demonic spiritism.

He said that he hoped that nobody in the congregation had seen it and if they had not, please don't.

He said that Satan makes it appealing, but it is altogether evil.

After going on about it for ten minutes he was able to get a couple people to chime in. One woman said that her grandson was watching the cartoon Avatar and it was clearly demonized. (She and everyone else in the congregation are too stupid to know that the cartoon and movie are completely unrelated.)

He almost spent fifteen minutes of the study on this.

It's bad enough when you have the WBTS encouraging stupidity from their literature, but it's worse when you have individuals get up on a soap box and promote their own opinions on the congregation as though they are God themselves.

You can argue about the point of seeing Avatar based entirely on the predictable plot and stereotypical characters. This movie has nothing to do with Hinduism.

What a complete and utter idiot. Words do tend to change and adopt other meanings.

Hmm. So the origin of the word Avatar makes the movie demonic. Of course, not even the WTS would say anything to that effect, would they? They would encourage a more moderate view, like the one found in the September 22, 2003 Awake! regarding Pinatas.

"A main concern is, not what the practice meant hundreds of years ago, but how it is viewed today in your area. Understandably, opinions may vary from one place to another. Hence, it is wise to avoid turning such matters into big issues."

Taking time from the CBS to spread a personal agenda seems to be "turning such matters into big issues".

This was used in a talk on Sunday at our hall by a visiting speaker, he said Avatar is similar to the Nephilim, even my dad who's an elder, said that was a load of crap.

Star Wars = God doesn't like war. Can't see it!

Dances with wolves = Wolves are bad, sometimes disguise as sheep. Can't see it!

The beauty and the Beast = Satan is the beast, UN is the beast. Can't see it!

Little mermaid = Mermaids are mythological. Can't see it!

The odd couple = Are they married? Oh, it's two guys? Can't see it!

The godfather = a Catholic practice. Can't see it!

    It never ends...

Typical reaction from a braindead, Why is it that as soon as a man becomes an elder he has an "old fart transplant". I remember when Event Horizon came out and seeing an elder and two MS in the cinema watching it. Reminds me of most things from the platform"Do as I say and not as I do".

Hey...somebody has to preview it to see if it is a possible stumbling block. They probably preview porn too.
