I get you, Sylvia, but you have to understand that the current generation of Americans are taught that ignoring race altogether shows that you're not racist. Race and more accurately ethnicity play a vital role in everyone's lives but because of the hateful racism of the past the entire issue is hushed and avoided.
The governing body of JWs took a LONG time to appoint a black member even though in many parts of the world the Dubs are considered a "black" religion. Think race isn't significant within the inner workings of high level Borg members? It most certainly is.
Today, the GB is 12.5% black. Back in 1980 did ANY black man have a chance of being selected to the GB? I doubt it.
