Jews for thousands of years have believed in their "One God"

Just to correct, Christians believe in "One God", their understanding of that God is what is at variance with Judaism.

In an extremely small nutshell, the author, with the cooperation of the Catholic church researched the evolution of today's orthodoxy from early church history. Much of the book has to do with the clash between Athanasius and Arrius, development of the concept of homoousios, the hereasy of Sabellianism, etc.

    TD,

So its a "chronology" of how the doctrine came to be?

It's laid out in a chronological fashion. The author is Jewish and makes an honest effort (IMHO) not to take sides when explaining why early Christian thinkers drew the conclusions they did.
