How many here view healthcare as a right?

    I do.

    I couldn't agree more, BTS.

My fascination with Che Guevera is only based on his character and his drive. His beliefs were flawed - even with the States strangling Cuba to this day.

They need to lift the embargo. At this point in time, I agree it has accomplished nothing.

Oh what bullshit, it's my family's country! How can I hate it? I hate the regime

You hate it. The regime IS the country and the people and you obviously hate it. That's obvious. Yeah, I know there are hundreds of people who try to flee by getting in boats to try to make it to America...on the same hand there are thousands of Americans who leave the USA for other countries - some want in and some want out....just different ways to do it.

If you go and read the MEDICC review like I said - it goes into detail what they do. If you can't be bothered to read it, then you aren't impressed by the accomplishments of the people. It isn't a review about Castro - it's a journal with a lot of information intertwined with the USA journals on medicine. It's quite interesting actually.

If you look up Peter Bourne (I think that's his name), he actually wrote a book on the US impact on Cuban medicines etc - anyway...check it out or don't. It's up to you - by the way, I don't need to move there but I can visit any time because I have that freedom. sammieswife.

You are so full of crap it isn't even funny. It would be funny you weren't praising something so horrible. Those are my people. I still have a lot of family there. Only a brain-addled moron like you could confuse a people with the totalitarian regime that enslaves them.

I'm praising the Cuban people who have pulled themselves up and who are working well in health and education despite their challenges. Like I said, read the MEDICC. Enlighten yourself. If you have family there then you should be aware of all aspects of their lives shouldn't you? Including those positive things - some of which may offset those negative things. The leadership is one thing - MEDICC is more of what is being done by the health care profession and as I said, it is very interesting. I consider your health insurance system that kills people every day in the name of profit in this country to be horrible but you love it and support it. Who's brain addled? Who's a moron? Who's sense of values are skewed? Not mine. sammieswife.

Correction: He said he did not hate the people (just the opposite) but that he DID hate the regime because it oppresses the people.

On the other hand, your love affair for socialist/marxist government (and in fact this dictatorship) leaps from these pages as strongly as my love for the Ferrari.

And this is something most of us here simply do not understand.

Only for someone that is truly evil or truly confused. Sammie is a bit of both.

Still, Cuban healthcare is so great that Castro had a Spaniard flown in to examine his poop chute before surgery. Apparently, Castrista physicians are only good enough for the proletariat, not the Caudillo. And these envious morons think they will get rid of their hated "class." Guess what, the new boss makes the old boss look like a saint.

    And it gets better:

Cuban leader Fidel Castro has long prided himself on Cuba's doctors and free public health care system, but that system seems to have let him down after he fell ill in July , U.S.-based doctors said on Tuesday.

Based on a report in Tuesday's edition of Spain's El Pais newspaper, the doctors -- who have no first-hand knowledge of Castro's condition -- said Castro had received questionable or even botched care at the hands of health experts on his communist-ruled island....

..........Gerson and Dr. Meyer Solny, a veteran gastrointestinal expert at New York Presbyterian Hospital and the Weill Cornell College of Medicine, said Castro's doctors erred by seeking to avoid a colostomy -- or opening in the abdomen to get rid of stool -- after an initial operation to remove part of his large intestine.
