something else that won't satisfy the ridiculers. In the end, each one of us is convinced according to our own personality

That I do agree with. People believe what they want to believe, in spite of evidence to the contrary.

Yeah, I see that all the time.

Belief and faith are powerful mechanisms in one's life. The ideas of "revelation" both personal and group, are often the foundations for faith.

I think it very fair to have personal beliefs and a personal god. It is when the insistence is on a "God for all" that I begin to have problems personally.

It doesn't surprise me that if anyone believes that the bible is the word of god, they are going to defend that. A discussion of the matter is always beneficial, but in the end, I doubt it changes much of anything when it comes to personal views on the matter. You can feel you are right for believing or not believing.

Personally, I don't think the bible is the word of god for a variety of reasons.

But to those that do, more power to you. Just be respectful of those that don't. These days, a more liberal view of the bible is out there, and smart theists pick and choose what passages are relevant, and which are not relevant to today's life.

I wonder if God is up in heaven slapping his forehead and telling Jesus, "Look, Mr Word of God, you should have done it the way they're saying! That's where we've gone wrong!"

Hey, I have often wondered about that myself!

Actually, "begotten" can only happen if that one was created

    My reply:

But the term is not begotten, but only-begotten- which means unique, one and only....from the Greek word momogenes

Hbr 11:17By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten [son],

Isaac was not Abraham's only son, nor was he even the first one born to him.

Isaac was the legal "firstborn". So was Jesus.

    "only-begotten" means the "only-one-exclusively-created"

everything else, Jesus was involved with

All children (sons) have their start after their parent (father). The same is true of Jesus, no matter how others may try to deny it. The Jesus with no beginning is a myth, the only-born Jesus is not.

Strong's Dictionary entry is as follows [with accents omitted, due to Post font limitations]:— 3439. μονογενης monogenes, mon-og-en-ace´; from 3441 and 1096; only-born, i.e. sole:— only (begotten, child).
