was it love at first sight?

I met my hubby at a retail shop. We met by way of an old boyfriend (who happened to be a df'd jw who still believed in the madness - had no idea when I met him ). Anyhoo, it was not love at first sight. A few more sight were needed before that happened.

When I was a teenager the witnesses from several congregations would meet up on Wednesday evenings ,and go Roller Skating . It was the perfect time for horny teens to have the chance to hold hands when the couples only skate came up . Young hormonal teenage boy had noticed me(big boobs with no need for bag over my head ref.oompa thread ) at a witness football game the year before so when he saw his chance he took it ,and asked me to skate with him ,awwwwwwww. I gave him my phone number before the night was over . We did alot of roller skating after that !! He proposed the summer before my senior yr of school and we married the day after I graduated .Next June we will celebrate 30yrs of marriage .(we don't skate any more though ,thank god !)

My husband and I met on his front porch when I went to his house to see if he'd fix my car (referred by a mutual friend, and I didn't know where his shop was). Anyway, he came around the house from the backyard when I was knocking on the door. He instantly became irritated, because he thought I was a jw, because I was wearing a dress (LOL). At first glance, I was dismayed, because he was filthy--covered from head to toe with grease and dirt. I informed him that I wasn't a jw (had already been df'd), he invited me in, washed his face and hands, and after talking for a few minutes, it was just about love at first sight. That was 13 years ago, and we've been together ever since.

Every morning when I walked to the train station, she and her pioneer friends would be standing on the corner offering the magazines. She approached me and I yelled "get a job" and kept walking. It was a few weeks later that she found out I was a witness. She hated me for two years. But got me back by marrying me. going on 19 years now!

I knew the first time I spoke to Andy that he was special. He was a lot younger than me though, so I didn't think of him as anything but friend material. It was like, "Wow, he's really cool. If I was his age, I might just like him." He liked me instantly, too, and eventually he shocked me by telling me he had fallen in love with me. I kindly brushed this off. But he was there for me as I went through some challenges and eventually his love broke through to me. These days, I am not sure what will be become of us. But he assured me this weekend that we'd always be a part of each other's lives in one way or another. I joked with him later, when The Moody Blues song: I Know You're Out There Somewhere came on the radio, that he'd sing that one day and find me in a nursing home. He said, "You're not ever going into a nursing home!"

    *Sigh*

I know from this relationship with Andy, that men and women can communicate well and get along. I know what it's like to be with someone I agree with on almost everything. We have a very fond friendship. We have unconditional love for each other. I know I don't ever have to settle for anything less. I've seen what is possible, with Andy.

first husband: met at a congregation picnic. He teased me. I married him. I should have kicked him in the balls and run away instead.

True Love: met in Town Square chat room on AOL. It was love at first sight. He wasn't a witness; I asked him to study; he did but found "inconsistencies." I was SO in love with him but distance and religious differences were a problem I couldn't manage to overcome, and after two years I just kinda quit calling him anymore. I thought I was doing the right thing and pleasing Jehovah.

Husband: met on the internet as well. Was definitely NOT love at first sight, middle sight or even last sight. H was much more aggressive though, and convinced me that True Love wasn't really interested in me if he wasn't willing to change his whole life to be with me. H studied and got baptized and moved to my city and dated me after I "broke up" with true love. H wined and dined me and impressed me with the lifestyle he could provide. Then he proposed. I turned him down. But about a month later in a moment of depression and defeat I curled up in a ball and told him I would marry him if that's what he wanted. Why? I didn't have the heart to hurt him, and I didn't have the strength to be single again. I felt I would never meet anyone who loved me ever again. I figured security was worth something and maybe I would grow to love him, but if I didn't, he was relatively pleasant to talk to and I'd be taken care of in any case.

I am now separated from Husband. True Love never married. Who knows what the future holds?

Halcyon, I feel your pain. A lot of us former JW's married for similar reasons. The dating pool is so small inside the org. It's easy to end up miserable.
