Just got a phone call...

My oldest daughter (who is currently up in CT) just called to tell me my stepmother (wicked witch of the west) was in an accident yesterday evening. She was riding a moped and crashed it into a parked car (don't ask me what an overweight 53 year old woman with bad knees is doing on a MOPED but whatever...supposed to save on the cost of gas or something). ANYWAY...she shattered her right leg and wrist in the accident (her GOOD walking side) and apparently will never be the same. I anticipate she will be unable to walk without major assistance (she had a hard time walking before the accident), especially if she doesn't drop some of her weight.

This woman has been completely evil to me for most of my life...BUT she did some good things too. She avoids talking to me (lets my Dad or daughter call me back when I call, instead) and now my daughter is telling me she's going to give me her phone number when they get her settled in at another hospital (the one she's in now doesn't have the specialists needed for her kind of injury). Do I call? Do I send flowers and a get-well card? Do I go broke and travel up there to see her? Just because she's treated me like crap doesn't mean I want to reciprocate..."kill them with kindness" has always been my motto.

    Thoughts?

I have an evil Ex-step....20 years of HELL!

But since your dad is still married to 'it', I would go, bring flowers, show support while visiting with dad and daughter!

Don't forget to discuss weight loss as part of her 'recovery'.......who knows maybe she will do rehab, lose weight, and run away with another man.......... imagine life without a stepmonster!

Mopeds are a good idea for any budget conscious person in this day and age. Heck, I would gladly ride one.

Even though you've had a horrible time with her it is kind of you to reach out and help the family in some way. These days instead of sending flowers and such I tend to spend the money on grocery store gift cards and tell them that I hope it takes a little bit of the burden away from their difficult times. I send them to sick people, give them to grieving families after losing loved ones. I figure a little financial help is always welcome.

No offense, but do they know you're posting pics of them? Maybe not a good idea!

Well, if she has been so nasty to you, I wouldn't go out of my way to kill her with kindness, perhaps send a card for the sake of your daughter, flowers even, although I would probably send a weight watchers membership instead.

If your own budget seems in the way, perhaps a simple get-well card and/or phone call would do.

Being the better person never hurts. Even if only meant as a good example to your own children~

Have flowers delivered with nice card. Set the example of Christian love.

I concur with Summer, be kind, but within your budget. I have always tried to treat others as I would like to be treated myself....
