Actually there is one songwriter on this board whose lyrics are among the best I've ever heard. Unfortunately in this business it is as much who you know as what you know, if not more. I hope she succeeds though, fingers corssed

Yeah, but I remember her for "Society's Child". I was just starting to become aware of social issues, and she was writing songs about them.

Check out some of Peter Green's solo stuff cos its brilliant. 2 albums spring to mind,one is 'Blue Guitar' and the other is 'In the Skies'. Brill track on both called 'Fool no More'.You can get them off Amazon or Play.com or even e bay.
Another really good songwriter is Barry Mani..................................................................................AARRGGHHH!!

Here are a couple of songwriters that I have admired, one since the 60's and the other the 80's. Jimmy Webb needs no introduction, but here he plays one of his songs with UK writer Paddy McAloon, the very underrated songwriter who led Prefab Sprout in the 80's. Both Paddy and Jimmy Webb have a feel for 'pop' melody that is second to none.

Here is Paddy Macaloon performing a song from the 'Steve MQueen' album by Prefab Sprout. This album is a must in any definitive 'pop' collection. I cannot pretend that I play it very often, but it is a perfectly crafted album.
