A comment which clearly evidences that you seldom read posts made by others, but just skim through and then slip into your customary bluster mode.

For the record, I will paste what I have written regarding this subject. I make no apolgogies for doing so, just to once again prove your intellectual dishonesty. UInlike yourself I have my own mind and do not need numerous cut and paste efforts to do my speaking for me. Everything I have written is open to the readers view. No rebuttal has been offered by yourself or Journey On. You are both content to whine like child

This only evidences how your offensive personal attacks completely overshadow anything positive that you might contribute.

I left out the comment where I had to correct your over-positive statement regarding Hitler and his 'parasite' metaphor. I do not wish to embarass you for the second time over this. ;)

I am not embarassed. I was incorrect. I posted hurriedly without full consideration. You expanded on my statement. Thank you.

    Pop-Tart,

Incidentally, Hitlery_GooseStep the Grammar Nazi, you may be correct on contractions, but it is spelled "melee". So much for that vaunted UK "edumacation".

I pointed out the grammatical error of Journey On only because he first made a comment on what he noted as flaws in my spelling and grammar. This is further evidence that you do not read posts with any care before replying to them. It is much easier to point out a spelling error in a persons post than actually engaging ones brain and contributing to the subject of the thread, but of course you well know this.

The reality is that if a person points out a spelling error in another person, this will very quickly come back to haunt them.

    Attend to yourself Pop-Tart. ;)

I doubt very much whether you have a clue what Socialism actually is, let alone its history, yet you continue to clutter this thread with your vapid inanities.

Evidently you only have a feeble understanding of anything outside your pet ideology.

    Oh I see!

So now you accept that you are incorrect about the lack of contributions I have made to this thread. Now, I have actually have made contributions BUT they are overshadowed by the 'personal attacks' made on yourself and your side-kick, Journey On.

Ever changing goal-posts, the mark of a weak mind, Burn The Ships.

Then limit urself to critiquing my spellng. Ur libral edumacation has obviously destroyed your ability to challenge the brainwash you received in teh UK.

    Burn,

Please present evidence where I have stated that Socialism is my pet ideology? I have made it clear that I am not entrenched in any political viewpoint. I have stated that I believe in a fair distribution of wealth and equal justice for all as ideals.

Then limit urself to critiquing my spellng. Ur libral edumacation has obviously destroyed your ability to challenge the brainwash you received in teh UK.

Sorry Pop-Tart, you are not in a position to instruct me to do anything. This is not a Kingdom Hall. I do not critique spelling, that is for petty minds. I do critique ideas, especially the empty sort that yourself and Journey On have peddled on this thread.

God, you are a waste of my time. Enough already.

I'm going to say one last thing, then I'm not going to open this thread again. We all have our strong points and weak points. Some can make theirs eloquently and some struggle a bit to do so.

Some answered this thread's question with a simple answer as I did: Socialism doesn't fly with the way the American spirit has evolved. Simply put, yes. But a relevant answer nonetheless. Any

elaboration I could have made further down the road was hijacked.

Hillary_Step will almost invariably come on board with his blustering full-of-himself attitude throwing out personal insults and doing his best to belittle anybody that has the audacity to make a

comment that he thinks hasn't been totally researched. Hell! Not everybody needs to be an total expert to participate. If someone mis-states something, correct them. Don't hurl insults and launch

into a tirade about their inabilities and mental inadequacies....IT JUST MAKES THEM RETALIATE IN LIKE MANNER. Nobody who participated in this discussion is mentally lacking.

When someone is SO SURE their way is the ONLY WAY and they get so hostile when others don't see it that way, then launch into a PERSONAL ATTACK that sets off a whole series

of verbal battles back and forth, everything falls apart. Nothing is accomplished.

Hillary_Step.....I'm sure you are an intelligent man with well-researched valid points to support your side....but you fail because you are weakened by your hatefulness and lack of any tact whatsoever.

I've got more to say to you, but I won't. You bring out the negative in people. You don't have the diplomacy required to make people think about things. You make them react to your hatefulness and

    recoil instead.

    It's a shame.

Then give to a worthy charity beksbks. Or help someone in need yourself. Volunteer. Not only will you help another, you will enrich your life and embue it with purpose. Coercive redistribution through taxation accomplishes none of this. It only increases the power of the state. create In the receivers it tends to a sense of entitlement, and in those that are fleeced it breeds resentment. Incidentally,

I find this statement very telling. First - you assumethat every person who pays taxes toward a social program will be resentful and then you arbitrarily decide that those same programs will now breed unchecked, a whole pile of (inferred) lazy sloths who feel they have a 'right' to those same taxpayer programs.

Many people in many countries contribute their share of taxes, fully understanding that by doing so, all people are entitled to the same access to social programs and services/treatments that are equitable within those programs. They understand that wether rich or poor, your taxes are paying for the firefighters for example, that save all the houses of any family and that understanding goes a long way in removing the oppressive class structure that itself creates resentment and a sense of being devalued. A country that chooses to place the value of your worth as a person on the money you have, is contrary to the country that by virture of religion, attempts to convince the people that your value is in being born.

I am always confounded by the 'sense of entitlement' issue because certainly if the person working at McDonalds pays his taxes toward a social program in the same manner that the office supervisor does or the Executive Director of a major corporation, then why shouldn't every one of them have a sense of entitlement? The programs they have paid taxes into are set in place for everyone to use as they need to but since everyone pays into the system, there is no resentment. I'm not certain where this entitlement issue comes in. Are you saying that it's strictly welfare? Personal welfare that breeds entitlement? Would you rather wander back through the passages of time when the workhouse and the poorhouse were one and the same? Where you could stack the poor alongside the criminally insane and lock them in? There will always be a segment of the population in every society, that will look for the easiest way out, that just won't work - that has been an issue since the beginning of time. If poverty or poor people is the issue - then address that issue. Are they poor despite working for a living? Then address that issue. Are they ill as a direct result of that poverty? Address that issue. Programs can be changed if enough people address the issues. It used to be that people donated to their parish or church knowing that money went to provide help for the destitute - one reason for non taxation. Now many churches can't keep up or no longer provide that same service, so perhaps taxing the churches would be one way to ensure that the donations really reach those in need. I'm all for education - if someone is on assistance, they should be taking wellness and economic classes, so they understand proper nutrition and how to budget their money. Those people will also pay taxes that will go toward those same programs they've used - that's full circle.

Perhaps the programs don't breed the sense of entitlement - perhaps for some, it's the reality of how much they are valued in a society that places their worth on where they live and how much money they have in the bank.

A nation whose citizens will not answer the call willingly is dead already. Ask not what your country can do for you.....

Good heavens! A call to what??? Bottom line is that they've increased the amount of money they are willing to pay to new recruits because nobody is heeding the call to fight ....money talks here, it's not about honor for everyone - it's about opportunity for many already hurting. The only fair system in a military machine, where you place all people on equal footing and value, is either a mandatory stint of 2 years right out of highschool for every single person - or a continual draft right out of high school. The idea that a volunteer army is really all volunteer is nonsense - when I volunteer at the hospital, or the church - I'm not paid. I give my time, my energy and my resources to fill that volunteer obligation - kids are recruited by the promise of money and/or college educations. sammieswife.

    Cash incentives increased
In a desperate attempt to recruit volunteers, the Army has increased cash incentives. Signing bonuses are up from $8,000 to $10,000. College scholarships have been raised from $50,000 to $70,000.

But it's an uphill battle. A decent economy is steering many potential volunteers into private sector jobs. And concerned parents who don't want their sons and daughters going to war are convincing them to not sign up.

In fact, new recruiting commercials are aimed not at recruits, but at their parents.
