"We must regain control of spending and live within our means,"

Yep, you can't keep on spending money you don't have.

Socialism? I thought this was about finance.

It has been working in the US! Well it was till Reagan and the conservatives sabotaged it and ruined the country. Now the US is barley the leader of the third world, forget about the free world. It's pretty clear the Europe Union is now the leader of the free world.

I'm sure when Hil or Barack gets in that will all change and we can join the Eurpoean Union and slowly get flushed in the sewer with them...

"The term socialism is used to refer to an economic system characterized by state ownership of the means of production and distribution." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialism

The article linked by the O. P. isn't about Socialism but is about government financial management problems which were quite likely brought on by Bubble Economics (thank you Alan Greenspan).

"But we need to be fiscally responsible and spend only the money we have," Schwarzenegger said. I completely agree with that.

I am not for Socialism or any form of Corporatism where power concentrates in the hands of a relatively few who historically act in their own best interests.

    Dave,

What you are describing is not a Socialist ideal, but the Capitalist ideal! Do you actually understand what you are saying.

Socialism at its most concentrated, (it is a big word with many dimensions), suggests the revolutionary overthrow of Capitalist government by the workers, the actual wealth-makers, and for power to be taken from 'the relatively few' and given to the majority. At its most evolved as seen in the concept of Social Democracy, as practiced in many quite successful European Countries, aims for this through democratic and not revolutionary means. To a Socialist, power in the hands of a few is what he fights against.

    Zeroday,

Judging from your comments suggesting that Europe is sliding in to the sewer (to join the US ;) ) I am quite sure that you do not have a clue what idealistic, or practical Socialism really is. I have a feeling that your understanding of politics, as far as they go are suggested to you by Chuck Norris movies.

If you claim some sort of moral high ground by defending the politics of a nation who pay their basketball players and actors 30 million dollars a year and yet has citizens living in cardboard boxes in its cities, and its old people dying from not being able to afford medicine to keep them alive, then a pox on your morals.

    Cheers - HS

European Democratic Socialism it works for them. They are more free than the US is currently on the individual level. Now trying to start a business is different but then you are really starting an individual project. I think that a concept bussniess owners don't understand when you are affect someone else's life you lose your freedom to decide all things.

    Now the US is barley

It sounds like you have been drinking too much of the fermented version again.

At least it keeps cool without refrigeration in that basement dwelling.

This is not politics. This is the free interaction of individuals. People pay for tickets and merchandise. No money is being extorted here. Many of these noveau riches come from those very cardboard box ridden areas.

    a pox on your morals.

A pox on your creaking socialist edifice. It will be dar-al-islam soon. I will live long enough to see it. You won't and you have no descendants to worry about. Very European. Enervated.
