AFAIK the Photo Drama portrayed the serpent in a weird cork screw position unnatural for a snake, but no legs as near as I can tell:
1940's and 50's era illustrations on the other hand depicted a weird lizard like creature:

Wow! I'm shocked they allowed for that kind of nudity in the publications back then. Women's breasts could be shown in print from 1914 till the 1950's. What changed where everyone turned into prudes?

There is the recently found fossil some scientists are interpreting as a four legged snake.
