In short, my mom's a die hard JW. My brother was never baptised and, although he doesn't believe or go to the KH anymore, my mom still has a relationship with him. Thus he decided to email the following to our mom and her reply is below.

What I want to know is,...what would be an excellent reply for my brother to use in response to her comment? For example, what is true and what is false about her statement?

My brothers email to my mom:

    Hey mom,
I came across a document about the jehovah's witnesses being
affilitated with the U.N. (seven headed beast) for about ten years.
Just wondering if you have heard about this?
    http://www.un.org/dpi/ngosection/pdfs/watchtower.pdf

    My mom's reply:

Hi,Yes,Every time an entity incorporates they are considered a NGO. For
example, if Danny and I decided to have ABW Vending become a corporation
that would automatically make us a NGO. Back in the 1800's the
Watchtower Tract and Bible Society incorporated and thus became a NGO by
doing so. When you read the Watchtower and Awake you will notice that
they quote from all kinds of authorites, organizations, etc. They site
where the information was taken from. The writing staff for many years
has used the resources available from the library at the Department of
Publoic Information, a Department of the United Nations. For years they
were able to go in and access the information with no problem. Then in
1991 a different person took over and refused entry to the brother who
went to do research. He was told that all they had to do was make an
application to the DPI and they could again gain access to the library.
They had resource information that would be important in light of Bible
prophecy. There was nothing in the application that had any statements
against our Christian faith, so they applied. Then in 2001 the brothers
realized that some of the language we could not agree with and they then
removed themselves. So the sole reason to be a NGO in this case was to
have access to the resources and library for the writing committee. We
as Christians are able to use government agencies for education, police
protection, etc., while not giving support to their political system. So
this would be the same. The individual governments are pictured by the
Wild Beast and the U.N. is pictured by the Scarlet Colored Wild Beast.
Jehovah allows these to exist and we benefit. Can you imagine what chaos
there would be without any sort of government in place? Romans 13:1
says, "Let every soul be in subjection to the superior authorities, for
there is no authority except by God; the existing authorities stand
placed in their relative positions by God." I hope that answers your
    question.Love,Mom

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Wow, J.

The WT saying one thing and doing another means nothing since there is a programmed reason for it.

I don't think that's true. I'm sure someone here can explain it.

    Hi Jeremiah,

Your mum's reply seems to be based on the letter the wts sent out to congregations when the news of their UN affiliation broke. A little research into the UN would show it to be the obvious lie it really is, but whether you can get your mum to do that is another matter. Check out this site

    http://www.un.org/dpi/ngosection/ngo-partnership.html

and look at NGO responsibilities, which kind of implies lending some support to the principles of the UN. Maybe if you sent this link to your mum, it would have some effect, if she is prepared to look at it objectively, without listening to the wts spin on the affair.

    good luck!

    Where oh where to start?

Hi,Yes,Every time an entity incorporates they are considered a NGO. For
example, if Danny and I decided to have ABW Vending become a corporation
that would automatically make us a NGO. Nope. NGO means Non-Governmental-Organization. It denotes a group that attaches itself to another in a semi-formal liason. Can you say 'Sleeping with the Enemy.'?
    Back in the 1800's the
Watchtower Tract and Bible Society incorporated and thus became a NGO by
doing so. See above. They became an NGO with the UN/DPI in 1992.
Wrong - nothing changed in 1991 - contact the UN to confirm that. I did.
They had resource information that would be important in light of Bible
prophecy. There was nothing in the application that had any statements
against our Christian faith, so they applied. Wrong again - they had to agree to support the UN charter - clearly in defiance of WT doctrine.
    Then in 2001 the brothers
realized that some of the language we could not agree with and they then
removed themselves. Another falsehood - they withdrew when the Guardian Newspaper in UK revealed the connection - within 2 days they were out.
So the sole reason to be a NGO in this case was to
have access to the resources and library for the writing committee. We
as Christians are able to use government agencies for education, police
protection, etc., while not giving support to their political system. So
this would be the same. The individual governments are pictured by the
Wild Beast and the U.N. is pictured by the Scarlet Colored Wild Beast.

there is no authority except by God; the existing authorities stand
placed in their relative positions by God." I hope that answers your
question.Love,Mom The rest is just speculation of course - the UN is not the scarlet colored wild beast most likely - but since the Jw's think so, this represents massive hypocricy and coverup.

I concur 100% with AK-Jeff's first 5 points above. You can search on my thread history to find the exact same information covered, with the actual replies I received from the UN.

Incorporation has to do with State (like Massachusetts, Delaware, California) governments. Once incorporated, the corporation (say "Walmart, Inc.") applies to the I.R.S. for a federal identification number. When you incorporate a business, there is absolutely no reporting to the United Nations, no need to become part of the United Nations, and no automatic NGO status.

Based on your mother's reasoning, it would not be a crime to use the YMCA facilities.

Perhaps a definition of 'non-governmental organization' would help... well, as defined by someone other than the WTBTS...

Duke University defines NGO at (http://docs.lib.duke.edu/igo/guides/ngo/) as...

"As globalization and international trade impact societies, non-governmental organizations have become increasingly influential in world affairs. They are consulted by governments as well as international organizations like the United Nations which have created associative status for them. There are now tens of thousands of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the world, operating in most countries. These organizations are not directly affiliated with any national government but often have a significant impact on the social, economic and political activity of the country or region involved."

An Inportant thing to note is that NGOs are considered for their political contributions and impact on society. This goes against the WTBTS's 'no part of this world' preaching they do, as they were involved (and may still be) with political organizations in smaller countries - regarding human rights. This has been (and can be) researched to prove its' accuracy.

It has very little to do with the need to access the UN's 'library' - and more to do with the JW's wanting to address the human rights issues in foreign countries.

Another thing that your mom can do - research her own WTBTS literature in the period from 1992 to 2001 - and see how many articles there were, slamming the UN (like they used to do in the 'good ol days'). She will find that they were very 'kind' to the UN during this time-period, as it was required (per their U.N. agreement) to only print things that 'supported' the U.N., it's charter, and it's goals - per the NGO agreement that they knowingly signed.

Someone else on here may be able to put this into better words than I am.

    Regards,

    Jim TX

Your Mum's right that the Organisation has always been an NGO, and is still an NGO, because any Organisation that isn't a government is a NGO (Non-Governmental Organisation) They didn't become an NGO because they joined the UN, but that's not the issue here.

They did however, became an affiliate of the United Nations, a political Organisation that they demonise. They have criticised other religions for joining up with the UN, and so for them to then do the same is very hypocritical.
