Well, we've got a full year to plan an Apostabonfirefest, or whatever we decide to call it, and I'm sure we'll meet between now and then. We can start a thread sometime in the summer, to see if enough are interested. I'd be up for it, and I know Trev would, I just asked him.

It would be great to plan a fest around an event like that.

Maybe you folks across the Atlantic could send a Guy Fawkes reincarnation over here to blow up Congress - they deserve it big time, the jerks!

I live right across the street from a big catholic church and every year since I've lived here (16 and counting) they put on a popular festival. Actually, a lot of churches in the city put on festivals, it is a way to raise money. At the end of the festival after sundown on Sunday night, St. John's puts on a big fireworks display by the Bartolottas, one of the primo fireworks specialists in the country. I have a front row seat in my backyard, although the trees have grown up some since I first built here, so I can't see even a hint of the ground displays anymore, but the aerial works are spectacular. I look forward to St. John Church's festival every year, and so do a lot of other folks. There is a Muslim family who moved in next store about 8 years ago, and they come out on their deck and watch the fireworks too. Many of the families in the neighborhood invite family and friends over and have big parties and then watch the fireworks together. As St. John's is only about 2 miles from the KH I used to attend, and people for miles around can see the fireworks display, I'm sure lots of still JWs watch - they just don't tell anybody.

Also, I cheated. I never stopped going to see fireworks even when I was at my most fervent of JW'ness. There is nothing like crowding down at the lake front (Lake Michigan) spread out with half a million or so other people to watch the HUGE fireworks displays put out over the lake for July 4th. There is a big display on July 3rd sponsored by U.S. Bank and on July 4th the symphony traditionally plays at Summerfest (grounds are right on the lake front) and Summerfest puts on another huge display of fireworks, often times to Bethoven's Fifth. Ahhhhh.... Shoot, I even ooh and aah when I watch fireworks on t.v., but seeing them in person is just so much more - delicious! You can feel those BOOMS go right through your bones, your whole body vibrates with the sounds and the rhythyms. I love fireworks. Better even, than watching a parade with a great drum and bugle corps go by.

I've just watched a firework display put on by Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex (full of class me!) for free as I can see it from the comfort of my house.

I remember when I was very little (or should I say when I was very young, as anyone who knows me, knows that I am still little!), being driven by my mum and dad to the book study on bonfire night and I loved looking out of the car window at the fireworks - only for it to be cut short by our arrival at the meeting.

I also remember my mum reading about some kids that had been burnt by fireworks that if they had followed Jehovahs organisation they would not have been involved in celebrating anything like bonfire night so they woouldn't have got injured. She said can't you see what a protection it is being a Witness.

    Unbelievable now.

Might be an idea, too cold for camping though.

Yes just got back from a great bonfire party, although the fire got out of hand and the fire brigade had to be called out. I bet the firemen and A & E hate this weekend. The Apostabonfirefest sounds good, but Guy Fawkes needs replacing with someone more appropriate, maybe a Rutherford "guy"?

hehe - I think it will be effort enough to get us together -lets talk about strange Nazi like effigy burning rituals later.

Any governing body effigy, past or present, would do. If we used a Rutherford effigy, it would burn well with all the alcohol, and we could build a fire based on the layout of Beth Sarim, but a Ted Jaracz puppet would be more up to date, perhaps clutching a copy of the wts paedophile database as he burns...

If enough people were interested, I'm sure something could be arranged. Let's keep it in mind, and post a thread sometime in the Spring or early summer about it, see what people think then.
