I have been reading here for a while but as you may of noticed the Assembly Games Post has flushed me out!

It has been fascinating to read all your experiences and to know that the stuff that I thought was odd, was thought odd by others as well.

    Two things made me leave:

    1. I found I could not do return visits as I did not want to break up families.

    2. The local peadophile elder was not reported to police. Although he was disfellowshipped, probably becasue she had 2 uncles that were elders. The excuse used was that she did not want to press charges (neither does any 12 year old girl) but I think the police would of been quite understanding and just kept an eye on him. I took advantage ot travelling for work and never went back.

No one ever enquired after me, but then I was a single girl in the truth and therefore clearly desperate for a husband so they obviously thought I left to meet a worldly man!

Another thing I found that I hated was that the organisation on a congregatioanl and circuit level was akin to the American South before the civil war, it was all about family connections and who you knew. As someone on my own I had no pedigree therefore I was a loose cannon. Actually I lie, my mother is a witness but as yet has not found a congregation to meet her strict requirements so she is a congregation of 1. Ha ha.

So if you a fellow Aussie lurking, please join.

By the way my congregations were Nunawading, Bayswater and Glen Iris.

    Cheers

Hi there fellow Aussie, good to see you on board.

Glen Iris rings a bell, maybe I have seen you around. When I was in Hobart a family moved in as refugees from El Salvador. What country were you from? Though don't feel obligated to give away too much info if you are not yet d/f.

I am a Melbourne girl born and bred we did have this wacky girl come from Tazzie with a couple of kids who married our resident wacky guy. He was drunk at the wedding, the best man had to hide his flask and then they did this huge pash at the end soft porn style...brilliant. I suppose that is better then all those sexually repressed kids who usually get married in the JW hall. Ahhh the memories.

I left because I could not in all conscience be associated with an organisation that did not treat paedophiles properly and when I left I did not know what was going on in other places, I had to make my own stand. I would not mind being disfellowshipped, I would wear it as a badge of honour. I would not worry about my mother not talking ot me as she has her own ideas and would probably keep going on about her BS and no one else in my immediate or extended family is (my mother is such a doom and gloom witness there is no fear of anyone joining). I would love to catch up with old friends becasue I just disappeared but if they are still in I probably would not bother.

At the moment I live in Ireland, JW Facts you are old enought to remember the arse end of the word comment, well obviously Paul Keating did not make his way to Ireland. Good God imagine a country run by JW's and catholism in the form it was in Ireland with the secrets and the dob on your neighbour attitude is similiar to JW utopia, things have changed with the cletic tiger, but there are days when I feel like I am in one big congregation. Also there is the drinking, alos a big problem with the JW's, there are quite a few parallels and if anyone wants me to recommend books, let me know. God I am homesick!! But we have plans and my Irish husbands parents have not been well, but nby god I am gettin gback to my godless sunburnt country one way or another!

Great to see you have moved on and happy, though it is hard to think of anywhere less stressful to live than Australia. And yes us Tasmanians are all a bit nutty.

BTW, this time of night everyone is asleep on this board. They only just start waking up in the US now. So it will be a few hours before you get many comments.
