Discussion of "intelligent design" (uncapitalized, AlanF)

DIdo:
You ought to be in favor of this discussion. AuldSoul is defending YOU. My point is that laying out the ground rules that exclude participation is arrogant and against the spirit of this board. If people don't like muddy waters they should take it some place else. If AuldSoul wants to just have a discussion with AlanF. he could simply ignore commenting on other peoples statements as he is prone to do anyhow.

AlanF: invite responses from anyone willing and able to contribute intelligently designed comments.
I am fairly certain that almost everyone on this forum believes your criteria applies to them, and if ANY feel that your criteria doesn't apply to them they likely feel slighted by the exclusion. This is exactly why we had to move from the other thread, isn't it? I believe it would end up with me arguing against 20 or so evolutionists and I would rather not, or it would end up with a lot of people wondering why they don't "qualify" or assuming they DO qualify and I would, again, rather not.
Adulsoul, I think it would be great for you and AlanF to have a discussion here and I appreciate the reasons for your suggestion due to the other thread and not you being arrogant.
Looking forward to your discussion.

Now I'm just as guilty of crashing the thread, but why the intrusions just to whine? If you can't enjoy a classic one on one discussion/debate then simply skip the thread.
AS and AF: Both of you have clearly distinguished between the two relevant cell types, so I'll only add in these additional two terms in that it may just save yourselves some typing in the future:
- germ cells = are the gametes (i.e sperm, ova and their antecedents)
- somatic cells = all cells that aren't germ cells

Elitist if you ask me!

Ok, AuldSoul, let's proceed. However, I simply won't respond to any posters who are unable to form intelligent comments. They know who they are.
Note that I have to work today, so will be unlikely to say more until much later today.

I have no doubt AlanF. can tie AuldSoul in knotts. I personally am going to check on this thread when it gets to page 10. At that point I will only read the current comments to see if it is productive.
I have read several books on the Intelligent Design debate. There are many more that I would like to read and I prefer to read those.
AuldSoul is unlikely to come up with a knock-out punch that will end this controversy.
It is so obvious that his ego is running rampant.
I can't wait til AlanF calls him a moron - probably at about page 5.
I consider it a privilege to have been called a moron by AlanF

Elitist if you ask me!
Cried dido. There should be a playpen for children on this board. There they could kick sand in other kids' faces and just generally be as disrespectful as they wished. No, it's not elitist, just grown up, debating while respecting certain boundaries. S -

I'll start off by asking some questions regarding known design (as stipulated in the assumptions). I will later pursue two different fields of human design in greater detail, chemical design and software design. These are the only two field (outside of bioengineering) that are (in my opinion) sufficiently advanced for effective comparison to the question of intelligent design/development of life, mechanical design being far too crude for rational comparisons to be drawn outside the bare bones basics.
(1) Do designers know all the potential impacts of their design ahead of time, or do they frequently discover unaccounted for impacts?
(2) Do designers experiment with several models along a similar type line to determine which performs most effectively?
(3) Do designers weed out those designs which show indications of poor performance and opt instead for those most effective for the intended purposes? If so, why?
(so that I don't need to redundantly close each post "Respectfully" you may assume that I submit my posts on this thread with respect)
