Somewhere I thought I heard that tatoos were okay as per the WTS if they were a part of your traditional culture or some crap like that. Is this right?
Tattoos are mainly for pagans, false worshipping and rebellious ones...

While I personally wouldn't have a tattoo, I don't think it's anyones business if they have one, including the wts.
Just when you think they've thought of every possible way to control their followers, they come up with yet another one.

When I was a kid in the 60s you could be different by growing your hair long like the beatles or the Stones. You could be different by playing music.Back in the 60's there were 3 tv stations in black and white. Now even basic cable has 57 channels with nothing on. Nowdays everythings been done. Tatoos are a way to express oneself. They are very permanet. In the 60's mainly jailbirds and bikers had tatoos. I saw a guy about 20 last week in the subway shop his whole head and face was tatood. I can only imaine he is on some kind of govenment disability or will be, mental. How will he ever find work. Maybe he owns a tatoo parlor. Nevermind.

I wouldn't mind a discreet tatto in a discreet place - not sure what or where. But at 54, I might be a bit long in the tooth to get one.

I'm going to get a tattoo eventually.
It'll be very simple and no j-dub can say a damn thing to me. 1 thessalonians 4:11 If they ask me what it means, I'll tell them to look it up in the bible.

If you are a Christian, you would certainly not want to make markings on your body—even temporarily—that smack of paganism or false worship.
So am I to understand that this also includes the temporary CrackerJack tattoos that come in the boxes? Or how about those little face painting booths for kids at the fairs and other places? I mean, what is "temporarily?" Or can you go the other way and get a tattoo that does not "smack of paganism or false worship?"
Just another manmade rule like beards.
The other thing I was thinking of was -- what was your first reaction to someone who had a tattoo? What if this person was at the kh? Your "theocratic training" immediately analyzes the rest of the person to determine if they are a jw in good standing or a study. You check out the clothes they are wearing - from head to toe. Makeup, personal grooming, and attitude come next. You can immediately tell if the person sporting the tattoo is a jw or not(they could have had the tattoo from before becoming a jw). Even a true jw will go to great lengths of covering over a tattoo so as not to stumble their brothers. I knew of a bro who wore a t-shirt while swimming because he had a tattoo on his back and didn't want to offend the bros. And that's what it's all about folks. Remaining separate from the world. It is just another visual indicator of spotting a fellow jw in a crowd. It's the most important aspect -- all jw's need to 'look' the same.

I told my JW mother that I was planning a getting a small tattoo someday and she says "Why would you want to mutilate your body like that?" I couldn't help but laugh.

My niece is a happily married schoolteacher and mother of four. She also has a very small but sweet tattoo of a butterfly just above her ankle. Now that WT has informed me how evil tattoos really are, I'll have to call to tell her she "belongs to a violent, brutal, antisocial, and criminalized subculture." I'm sure she has no idea!

I wonder how the WTS tells elders to treat any "interested ones" who have extensive tattoos. Stop the study and let him/her fry at Armageddon? Cover up head to foot, burka-style? Get the tattoos removed? Can they be removed? I'm sure the WTS has a twisted scripture somewhere they can quote for this situation.

Lord, doesn't the GB have anything else to worry about??
Yes. Like they did in my cong.
Local Needs: Sisters need to wear nylons.
Of course, not directly from the GB, but still the same mindset.
