I think the one the WTS uses to enforce mandatory meeting attendance is in Hebrews where it says "not to forsake the gathering of yourselves together as some have the custom." Of course the bible never specified FIVE meetings a week, assemblies, special assembly days and conventions that are also mandatory for all breathing JWs to attend.
Exactly. And that scripture could just as easily refer to a social context as it could a spiritual context. When this scripture was written, the Jewish Christians had formerly worshipped at the Synogogue, but they certainly weren't required to attend 5 meetings a week. It most likely would have been once a week-----a practice they would have brought over to the Christian faith. When you bring this to the attention of either elders or self-righteous Dubs, they get a stunned, stupified look on their faces, because they generally can't think of anything to say in response. A close friend of mine got a visit from the CO and the PO one night and the CO quoted the above scripture. Her husband (inactive for years) said what I said: "..That could simply mean getting together in a social context..." The CO was apparently pissed off that: a)My friends weren't kissing his ass like in the way to which he had become accustomed, and b) he couldn't think of anything to say in response.
minimus said: she's as close to the "perfect Witness" as anyone I've ever known EXCEPT for one little dirty family secret. It has been alleged that the olderst son, now in his 40's used to sexually molest his sisters but most of these allegations were "dealt with" before I got to that congrgation.
Ya, I find that it's usually those who are the most self-righteous Dubs, have the most to hide, so they compensate by becoming "superfine Christians" who wouldn't say "shit" if their mouths were full of it. For example, my cousin is soooo self-righteous it's nauseating. You can't have a conversation with her without her preaching and telling everyone how much she loves pioneering, how wonderful everyone in the congregation is, how loving Jehovah's Organization is and how close Armageddon is. She just can't wait for false religion to be destroyed and is looking forward to the New System which is right around the corner. The fact that she's gay is a tiny flaw in an otherwise perfect Dub character. I don't give a rat's ass about her sexual orientation, but I think it's quite interesting that she lives with another woman (even though they uh....have seperate bedrooms apparently) and would also be the type to make a comment like the one at the beginning of this thread. I think she thinks if she's "righteous over much" than it'll make up for her attraction to other women. She gave me
a boring sermon an "encouraging" talk a few days ago about going back to the meetings (no chance in hell of that happening) and insinuated that I wasn't going to make through the Big A if I didn't come back. I really wanted to ask her if she thought Jehovah would save her when she was living with another woman. Many of you here will be shocked that I managed to keep my mouth shut and didn't ask her this......didn't want to get a family argument going seeing as her mother doesn't think she's gay any more.
