What outward signs of apostacy are evident in your house?

If the elders came and inspected your home - what would they find?

A casual look around reveals a box of "Narnia" tissues on my desk, 12 or 14 non-witness translations of Bibles on my shelves, many non approved novels [Wifey's] on the reading table, plenty of 'apostate literature', a book or two on meditation, a hypnosis cd for weight loss, prob many toys that are not witness approved in the g-kids room, a half eaten birthday cake, a birthday balloon, Xmas wrapping paper in the closet , a couple of R rated movies, music that is not acceptable.

That is just at first blush. How is your house?

Actually, Narnia themes would probably not phase the JWs I know nor having several different Bible translations, since I would find the same in their home and at the KH library. I can't be hypnotized but do biofeedback, self-taught. On the right day, a birthday card might be on the table, but we put them away after a week (even shred them). No R-rated movies...but then we don't buy many DVDs. My fiction books are pretty tame mostly murder mysteries and science fiction. I do keep my "apostate" books in a cabinet with a lock by my computer. If they truly are nosy/rude, assuming we allowed them to search our home, they might find a tree wrapped and tucked away in a storage area, carefully stored, and wrapping paper with snowmen and/or snowflakes on it. I don't have any religious articles displayed...but then neither do my non-JW in-laws. Our music probably would not suit the taste of individual JWs, but then there is always someone at the KH with a "sensitive" conscience that tries to get center stage and impose that conscience on others.

No, I have no fears if the elders bulldozed their way into our home that they might see the wrong thing. If they did push their way in, this is what they might see.

I have a wooden cross next to my front door.

CofC is in my bookcase in the family room.

There's a rosery hanging on the bulletin board in my kitchen.

My daughter is reading Narina in the family room couch.

Most of the Harry Potter books are in my daughter's room.

There are quite a few Christian books on the bookshelf in my room. I keep the jw glad rags in my garage (and boy is it hot out there )

I can't really think of anything they'd find here. They probably wouldn't approve of some of the cds we have, or the dvds, but we have no apostate literature on display. There is an ashtray or two around, and dedpoets England football shirts in the drawer, but not much more "evidence" than that.

Straight out apostate stuff? Probably nada.

Questionable stuff includes:, Harry Potter books and DVDs, assorted DVDs with a rating higher then PG13, Marilyn Manson and White Zombie/Rob Zombie Cds (well anything other then Kingdumb Melodies is ? right), several angels, witch balls, Buddha statue ;D, several books on energy healing/alternative health, noticable lack of any jw literature (or any religious lit for that matter) and a boyfriend. 8o

A shelf full of "apostate" literature along with several other bible translations and Christian books.

I have a lot of other things JWs may not deem appropriate, like many books, music, DVDs, guns, motorcycle, but I had all that stuff when I was a JW. If elders told me they were 'inappropriate' I would just tell them to leave.

First of all, no one would be allowed to "inspect" my house...

But, lying out in open view for all to see are books, magazines, movies and music that could be viewed as "unchristian", though, not necessarily "apostate".

Lying on the coffee table for a while was "The DaVinci Code". I never gave it any thought, it's just a freakin' novel, not heresy. But I heard a couple of JW family members condemning the book and movie as a tool of Satan. But then again, I know several dubs who have read it as well, so who knows.

I have a stack of movies in the TV room that are mostly R-rated. Everything from Pulp Fiction to A Clockwork Orange. Harry Potter isn't R-rated but I know most dubs are deathly afraid of those books and movies. I have em all.

Not directly in plain view but not hard to find are Playboy and Easyrider magazines.

One thing some JWs might notice right off is that there are no Watchtower publications in plain sight. We used to have a floor to ceiling bookcase full of that crap. But, it's all gone now...boxed away(but within easy access, for research). The bookcase is now starting to fill up with history books, novels, cookbooks and photos.

The only thing they could get me on right now is our copy of Franz book "Crisis of Conscious", which we are finding to be quite enlightening!

To those elders who made a shepherding call on me just a couple of weeks ago, I suspect that my house in itself is a sign of apostacy since it's twice as big as any of theirs and was purchased with the educational opportunities they insisted would only be miniscule compared to spending all my time door knocking.

But, if they made it past the front door, they would've seen a library full of "R" rated movies, CD's of music I'm sure they're not used to hearing.

On occasion, they would've seen a B-day card given to me by people who "really" care about me.

In my garage, they would've seen my 2-door luxury sports car...definitely not a "service" car.

......Oh, and a closet full of WT "litter-ature" my wife is afraid to throw away.
