Would YOU Have Allowed Your Child To Die Instead Of Giving Blood?

There was never a time that I would have allowed my kids or myself to die for lack of blood. My ex-wife on the other hand, is completely a different story.

Yes, I would have followed the rules to that extent. But, my husband (non jw) would be the one to say yes to blood, so I knew I could follow the rule without my kids having to actually suffer from it.

Obviously, if there's one thing that is a weakness, it is the blood issue for the Organization. It seems very few really 100% believed and accepted it. But if you're drilled with "taking blood is sinning against Jehovah himself" over and over again, you just refuse life saving blood for yourself or your family.

Before children, I would have abstained from blood.

After my daughter was born, I knew I would take blood and give it to her as well. She was just too precious to have to die and she was too precious for me to die and leave her alone on this planet and not get a chance to know how loved she is.

4 months ago, i was praying to whichever spiritual being there might be out there, that i don't get sick or pregnant and have to face that perfidious truth. to take blood or not to take blood...

now, after reading the "society's" organ transplant about-face, and how they are inching towards one for blood transplants, it's sad and disgusting that we ever thought that way at all.

I would have refused blood, but would have been convinced it was not going to let them die, but was increasing their chance for survival by refusing blood.

Like several others, my view quickly changed once I had children of my own. I remember having a somewhat heated discussion with my non-jw inlaws about the JW's view of blood. They said if it ever came down to me or one of my children needing blood, that they would go to court and fight me if need be. (secretly I was relieved)

My JW mom has asked me to honor her wishes and not force blood on her. I told her that I would not force blood on her. However, I regularly talk about how unscriptural and foolish the whole thing is and I hope I'm making headway.
