Sinning against the Holy Spirit is called Blasphemy and that is unforgiveable

Farting in crowded elevators is also unforgiveable.

A teenage christian boy continually reads nasty books and looks at porn and plays with his monkey a whole bunch.

A christian man regularly cheats on his taxes

I'm sure there is a scripture for this ... uh ... the GB will say that it is wrong but it's ok when they do it ... uh ...

Yeah, like I was saying ... just as long as you don't get caught.

Can you Ever Lose your Salvation? No, unless you believe God exists beyond the written Word. Maybe ...

they are the three conditions of mortal sin, a christian must confess and repent especially if the sin is mortal.

been there, done that, bought the t-shirt

seriously though, the way I see it, the answer to this question is more a reflection on how confident a Christian's feels they can successfull manage the path of their own lives. There are those that feel they're perfectly capable of guiding their own behaviour in a way that is sustainable within the context they live in, and then there are those that feel they need an impossible to measure up brand of salvation to keep them on their toes.

I suppose you could give it
away - don't know that you could 'lose' it

Do you mean like winning and losing, or distraction and forgetfullness ?

But with regard to giving it away - well, you don't

Ok Carla...I'll give you some true to life scenarios.

A couple lives together but are not married and they are christians and they play nasty in bed.

A couple does not live together but they still play nasty once in awhile.

A guy is a christian and he smokes weed

A girl is a christian and she smokes weed

A guy is a christian and he drinks booze and once in awhile he gets drunk.......like 10 times a year!

A couple are christian and they are homosexual

A teenage christian boy continually reads nasty books and looks at porn and plays with his monkey a whole bunch.

A christian man regularly cheats on his taxes

    Those kinda sin

A sin is basically something antisocial - I'm not sure that any of those are sins, maybe the last one, maybe.

I think a Christian can lose their salvation - as someone else already mentioned, that's free will.

The question is, would a Christian, being fully aware of their salvation and its benefits actually want to lose it?

If a Christian doesn't realise the full cost and extent of their salvation, it would be easier for them to fall away - this is where the ultra-Calvinist would question whether such a person was ever saved in the first place.

Another point to remember is that in Paul's theology, nobody is fully saved until the final judgement. All Christians have at the moment is the down payment of the Holy Spirit to give them hope/assurance of salvation. That's why we carry on sinning, and that's why blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is unforgivable (maybe 'broadly' comparable with Esau who sold his birthright cheaply, thus losing his inheritance?).

The moment a person truly believes in Jesus Christ, they are saved and secure in that salvation

I have not read all the replies so I may be repeating -will read later when I have time. BUT!!!!
The moment you are born again!!!! Asking Jesus to be your LORD & Saviour.. Confessing you are a sinner ( of course not you Gumby) Your saved!!!! You Cannot be unborn... even if you sin -you ask ( Daddy to forgive you & try NOT to repeat it. None are perfect we all sin. But just as you cant climb back into Mummys womb- you cant climb out of Gods hands.... If you sin you will suffe r the conseqeunces,
I dont really care what others teach I now think independently!!! If I am wrong I will know in the end wont I???? But even if you DO ask Jesus to be your LORD & Saviour ----And you then turn your back on him---your still his !!!! He wont desert YOU!!!! Just like the Father that welcomed his wayward son back a long way off!!!God says "You being wicked know how to treat your kids"( well not in those words but in that manner) how much MORE deas HE love us!!!!

    O.K. my two cents

If I want to, yes. I simply have to reject Spirit for long enough, it will eventually leave me alone.

I'm not sure where your coming from. Pauls theology does not teach such. I've listed several scriptures by Paul if you care to read them in the initial post. However, I agree many scriptures indicate one can "fall away" and warns of the dangers which seem to conflict with scriptures that teach ones can never fall away since they are already 'bought'. Ianone brings up an interesting point. How does free-will come into play if you are purchased by christ blood yet choose to leave.......as many here have done because they cannot accept it as truth any longer? Gumby

    Gumby:
The essay you provided would be the Calvinist position, which I agree with. The opposite of it is the Armenian position, where folks believe that you can lose your salvation. The JWs follow a similar "lost-it" position, based on 1.Cor.10:12, however they ignore that the verse doesn't actually say that the individual is standing, only that they think they are.

The Universalist position is refuted in Rev.20:12-15, the Rich Man and Lazarus story, and a whole bunch of parables, which kinda suits me coz the idea of sharing a seat with Hitler doesn't do it for me. I know, I know, I should be more forgiving, but alas I'm human!

Regarding free-will, if we have absolute free-will, does that negate God's free-will to choose whom He will?

I'm not into the free-will theory at all. From our perspective we may have the semblance of it, but theologically speaking it falls within the over-arching "plan of God", whatever that may be.

AuldSoul:I think there needs to be a distinction drawn between "salvation" issues and "sanctification" issues.

You can grieve and quench the Spirit on the route of progressive sanctification (after re-birth), but all it does is slow your progress. That's a completely different issue from not accepting the work of the Spirit to "save", in the first place. I would further have to question whether or not that can be achieved, as It's pretty persuasive.

That leaves me with only a few uncertain ideas as to what it means to "blaspheme the Spirit". It's a highly contentious issue.
