How to break it to my young children we are not JWs anymore?

Although we plan on maintaining the status quo until we leave our current state and move east to NC, I would like to start giving serious thought to how we can begin to break it to our children we are not JWs anymore. My kids are age 7 and age 4. My oldest already has gone to school for two years as a JW.

My wife and I have not talked much about it yet, so any suggestions from people that have already gone through this would be most helpful.

    Thanks in advance!

Do what we did...told our kids that we've learned something and HAVE to change a few things...we were wrong.

although our motives were pure and we THOUGHT we were doing the "right" thing...we learned...that's what life is all about, re-adjusting yourself with the knowledge you gain... it's a beautiful, never ending process.

Also, that we were being abused, in the truest sense of the term, by people who claimed to represent "God"...and would not tolerate it anymore.

...and finally that religion is a snare and a racket...treat others as you want to be treated...and don't take SHIT from anyone...especially the "religious".

Oh...and celebrate the hell out of the Holidays...(and explain to your kids...that it's not for religious reason...it's the "custom" in this land and it's what makes people happy)

They'll get it...and still love and respect you....My kids do, and they were 10, 12 & 14 when we broke free...

The way I did it with my then 8 year old, was "Sweetie, Mom and I have been talking and thinking a lot and we've decided were going to make a lot of our own decisions. Sometimes at the Kingdom Hall they tell us what to do and we figured out that they don't always tell us what Jehovah actually wanted us to do. So we are going to think about things and that might mean that some of the things we told you might not be right."

    u/d, confusedJW,

    Those were excellent suggestions! Thanks!

I know it's late here in the US, but I have some follow up questions for tomorrow.

    Talk to you all then,

PS: RichieRich, I think I'll have you come over and babysit. That way after we get back you can stick around and play XBOX with me.

I was just kidding. Unless you want them running around, frying chicken, and cussing, I wouldn't suggest it.

However, I will take you up on the XBOX challenge. HALO2 too demonized for ya??

richie 'ill have em bow hunting in no time. in the house.

    ithink,

i really have no idea. but i am super glad for you that you have gotten this far.

i don't know much about kids, apart from my inner child. if i had kids, and was moving to a new state, i would be tempted to just not go to anymore meetings and see if the kids noticed or cared. but then again, i don't really know what i'm talking about.

Whoa. Did I miss something? Last I knew wifey was finishing Toxic Faith and had just come back from a meeting. This is great news, but I feel like I've missed a thread.
