Have you undergone psychometric testing to see what kind of personality you are?

The following emode test is free, and will help identify your personality type:
    http://web.tickle.com/tests/classiccareer/
(You may have to use: http://web.tickle.com/common/search.jsp?search=career+personality and choose the "Career Personality Test").

    There's intrepretive advice here:

    I'm an INFJ:
The INFJ takes his/her energy from the inner world of thoughts and emotions. He/she prefers dealing with patterns and possibilities, particularly for people, and makes decisions using personal values. His/her life is organised on a personal basis. He/she often has a private sense of purpose in life, and works steadily to fulfil that goal. He/she demonstrates a quiet concern for people, being interested in helping them to develop and grow. He/she is good at developing insight into people, though it can often remain unexpressed.

We had a day-long class with a lengthy personality test based on Myers-Briggs.

My personality type predominantly was the researcher type (represented by color green). The kind that would do best in jobs writing, library-type, artists, any kind of job that would need long stretches mostly alone.

Other types were sensitive (blue) and were more in touch with other people's feelings and would do best in "helping other people" jobs. That was my 2nd "runner-up."

Of course, we all have overlaps and traits in all the ranges, but usually are stronger in one type.

Sirona, your career personality type is ESTJ

That means that based on the standard measure of personality traits, you have a quiet determination and sharp mind ? you're very focused and buckle down when it comes to work. You are the type of person one looks to in a crisis. While others may provide emotional support in a situation, your clear and logical thinking allows you to solve the problem at hand.

You may be firm, but your actions are generally fair. You believe in putting in the work and don't expect favors to get ahead. Additionally, you want objective feedback to determine your success. You are a careful thinker and get all the details before making any decisions. You don't jump to conclusions and stick with the facts provided. In other words, you're the go-to person for the real story, not the spin or gossip. While others may sometimes see you as stubborn, they begrudgingly respect your ethics and straightforward approach.

The reason employers and recruiters might be on the lookout for you is that only about 12% of the U.S. population shares the unique characteristics of your personality type. Research shows that businesses succeed when employers create a good balance of personality types in the office. And since only 12% of the U.S. population shares your type, that means employers are looking for you.

I'm not even in the US. LOL

    And isn't this wierd:

    ESTJ

The ESTJ takes his/her energy from the outside world of actions and spoken words. He/she prefers dealing with facts and the present, and makes decisions using logic. His/her life is organised on a logical basis. He/she is therefore practical, and likely to implement tried and trusted solutions to practical problems in a businesslike and impersonal manner. He/she prefers to ensure that the details have been taken care of rather than spend time considering concepts and strategies.

So despite the fact that some think I am totally illogical, I'm actually very practical and logical when problem solving, etc.

    Sirona:
What goes on inside isn't necessarily how others perceive you. In addition, their powers of perception are coloured by their personality type, too.

Funnily enough I had you pitched as _STJ. I just wasn't sure about the E/I category.

What is funnier still (although I don't really want the thread to digress down this route) is that you match your sun sign well, as do I

I guess its not always good to categorise people. I struggled on a few of the questions because I could have happily chosen two options. It all depends on the circumstances. In personal life, I guess I decide things based on intuition and emotion more than logic, but at work I'm logical, and it was a career related test.

By the way, did you get my PM reply?

The first time I ever did Myer-Briggs was at a Marriage Retreat and it was an eye-opener! It really helped my husband and I understand clearly why we "act" the way we do.

    I am an:

    INFP

The INFP takes his/her energy from the inner world of thoughts and emotions. He/she prefers dealing with patterns and possibilities, especially for people, and prefers to make decisions on the basis of personal values. His/her life is flexible, following new insights and possibilities as they arise. He/she is quiet and adaptable (up to a point - when his/her values are violated the normally adaptable INFP can surprise people with his/her stance). He/she will seem to be very interested in ideas, and he/she may sometimes make very creative contributions. He/she has a hidden warmth for people and a desire to see self and others grow and develop. He/she prefers to undertake work that has a meaningful purpose.

    While my husband is an

    ENFJ

The ENFJ takes his/her energy from the outer world of actions and spoken words. He/she prefers dealing with patterns and possibilities, particularly for people, and makes decisions using personal values. His/her life is organised on a personal basis, seeking to develop and maintain stable relationships with those people he/she likes. He/she is actively concerned with promoting personal growth in others. He/she is also highly sociable, and expressive of feelings towards others, but can find conflict and criticism difficult, particularly if it might damage long term relationships. He/she works best in situations involving people.

I did take the test, among a few others, for Career Planning. I'm artistic, no surprise. As of tomorrow I'm taking Adobe Illustrator and CAD Interior Design. I'm really looking forward to it. Hopefully it will eventually get me a job that I'm interested in and also pay my bills.

This takes me back. A few years ago I was doing the Myers-Briggs with my friends in the Hall, it was a hoot. Although it did end in tears for some.

I'm and ENFP with periods as an INFP.

Sens, your career personality type is INFP

That means that based on the standard measure of personality traits, you are highly organized (are they joking!!!??!!!) and have strong project management skills. You prefer to work independently and then pass your ideas or tasks on to others. When others lose sight of the big picture, you help them to stay focused to see what's important and weed out unnecessary details. This skill set will help you succeed in nearly any workplace.

The reason employers and recruiters might be on the lookout for you is that only about 3-4% of the U.S. population shares the unique characteristics of your personality type. Research shows that businesses succeed when employers create a good balance of personality types in the office. And since only 3-4% of the U.S. population shares your type, that means employers are looking for you.

But, to truly show employers what you have to offer, you need to understand a little more about traits that make up your type.
