Name the things you don't miss about going to a DC! I don't miss: ---getting there so early and then find that the "servants" have saved all the good seats ---not having time to make a decent lunch and getting admonished about not buying from nearby vendors.

Why can't you buy from nearby vendors?

The stiffling heat at The Vet! The long lines at the ladies room! Public transportation to get back and forth. The days that seemed to drag on and on and on.....

I hated being treated like a child. "Take only 1 towel." "Deposit soda cans in the bins marked soda cans only." (duh)

    Fighting crowds
underused A/C (except in administration where it was frigid)
    smelly bathrooms
packing paper covering the bathroom mirrors
    interminable talks
    stairs
    poor lighting
    botulism from the sandwiches
    Shasta cola
mindless clapping everytime the speaker farted (especially on Sunday afternoons)
having to drive an hour each way just to get to the auditorium
blowing an entire weekend plus a vacation day or two just to make it
self-important attendants who really needed to hit upside the head with a 2X4
clean up duty after the session was over
how hot and stale the air inside the auditorium was

Definetly the smelly bathrooms! Ladies lined up half-way around the stadium, while us lads could waltz in to the piss-reeking bathrooms to joyfully line up and hang our weiners out.... and use the toilet, and have to wait when someone exits so brother "I'm cleaning toilets" gives the seat a wipe... the seat still warm from someone else's butt...

    BLAAAAAA!~!!!!!

    Uncomftroble seats.......

    Need I go on?

    1. All the good seats are gone at 8:05 am when the doors open at 8. The "workers" inside saved 20 each for those in their "car" group. Big car!

    2. No one letting you cut in the line to the women's restroom when you have diarrhea. (They learned)

    3. Trying to talk to the people sitting near you to be friendly and being treated like you have leprosy.

    4. Having to listen to the same talks every year.

    5. Having to listen to the same announcements every year (as someone said, are we children?)

I know what you mean, the last one I went to at 24 yrs. old, I was outside talking to some 16-21 yr. olds. A ms that I knew liked to beat his kids came out & said, " Lunch is over , time to go inside" I said, I'll go in when I'm ready, thank you" He put his hand on my shoulder & said, "No, I think you'll go in now, like I asked" I then nicely asked how he would enjoy being called lefty. He let go and stormed off in a huff. I have never stepped back in a jw establishment since.

Last year at an assembly a long way from where a live I bumped into an elder I've known for most of my life. Last time I saw him, a few years ago, I had a few things going on in my life and we had argument after arguement about why things were covered up in the congregation, how some could do so many wrong things and they be covered up, no matter how bad they were. And others who'd been wronged by them were just ignored and given the cold shoulder. He got the fright of his life when he saw me, and was so uncomfortable so I kept the conversation going as long as I could. I saw him a few weeks later on tv, he was the one sent by the society to sort out the congregation in the paranama special on child abuse! Wonder if thew cover up there felt familiar to him?

    • The stress
    • Seeing the same old ugly people
    • Trying to look interested
    • Listening to a 17 year old smug GIT talk about life in the truth with mummy and daddy helping
    • The dreaded entry into the assembly hall; finding the good seats had all been taken
    • Having to eat in public
    • Trying to avoid people you didn't like
    • Standing up for the song and looking like a right dick.
    • Remaining standing as they read out the announcements
    • Listening to the ultimate over the top prayer at the end from an attention seeking elder
    • Making the best of a bad situation
    • Watching the whole audiance grovel as the C/O gave his talk
    • The ideal 'daily text' scenario; Daddy giving the family the 'right food' in the morning
    • The whole point of it all.
