If you're still unsure about the hotline to heaven (aka FDS), then have a laugh at this truly pathetic story being circulated by the dubs - comments from Stephen Lett of the Groaning Body - see below.

    To summarise Lett's mind-control ramblings:

    • Angels are directing JWs in the ministry - of course!
    • If you don't answer the door - God will kill you
    • If you don't listen to us - God will kill you
    • Brainwashing of minor children is a real winner
    • Calling on empty houses may seem like a waste of time - but to dubs it's the work of angels

For the Bethel drone monitoring this post - wake up and smell the coffee, before you're made to leave your cosy Brooklyn office and hack the streets calling on empty houses.

You can be sure Lett will be right behind you!

"At morning worship with the Bethel family, Bro. Lett of the Governing Body, made a few comments regarding our work of preaching and bearing witness to others.

He made the point that we should not be discouraged by not-at-homes or those who are not interested in our message. He mentioned that even if 80% of our visits were not-at-homes, and 20% were not interested, we still have many reasons to be joyful. Primarily, because we are pleasing Jehovah. Also, we are fulfilling our responsibility to bear witness to others, thereby proving that Satan the Devil is a liar. Additionally, we are helping the angels determine the condition of people's hearts.

He then gave this example of a typical day in field service. At the first door we go to, after we knock, a woman peeks through the window, sees us, but doesn't answer the door. We mark it as a not-at home, but the angels mark it as something else. They can see the condition of the woman's heart.

At the second door we knock at, no one is home since the husband and wife are both at work; but we leave a tract. That night when the couple gets home and sees the tract, a conversation begins. "Those Witnesses were by our house today. They sure are persistent." The angels are watching and make note of it.

At the third door we knock at, no one answers. This is because the woman at the first house called her friend at the third house and warned her that we were coming. She says: "Boy, those Witnesses sure are persistent. They just don't give up." We mark it as a not-at home, but the angels mark it as something else.

We knock at the fourth house and no one is home. However, a lady across the street sees us. The Witnesses had knocked at her door last week, but she didn't listen. She says to herself: "Those Witnesses sure are persistent, but very well dressed. Even their children are well behaved. Maybe I should listen to them the next time they knock at my door. " Again, the angels make note of it.

We knock at the fifth house, and again, no one is home. But a garbage truck passes by. The driver tells his co-worker: "There go those Witnesses again. Aren't they the ones that don't accept blood transfusions?" The driver replies: "But look at how well dressed and well behaved their children are. I wish my children were the same." The angels make a note of this.

So at just these five houses, there may have been five not-at-homes marked down, but look how many conditions and reactions of the heart the angels were able to observe. Now imagine how many of these same scenarios they observe being played out around the world each and every day. How important it is that we be in the ministry to help our angelic brothers take note of the responses we receive at the doors."

    A more truthful version:

At the first door, the JW's knock, the woman peeks through the window and doesn't answer. "When will those religion pushers go away?"

At the second door, the JW's knock, the couple is at work, the JW's leave a tract. Later the wife finds the tract and crumples it up and puts it in the circular file.

At the third door, nobody answers because they had been warned by those at the first door. "There oughtta be a law against those Jehovah Witnesses", she thinks to herself.

At the fourth door, nobody is home. Across the street was the lady who refused the literature last week. She thinks "those JW's are very persistent. Poor children, they should be doing things normal children do instead of this free labor for a religion."

At the fifth door, nobody is home. A garbage truck passes by, and the sanitation workers comment to each other "Those JW's have more garbage than we do!"

At those 5 houses, nobody was home, nobody was impressed, nobody really cared about the JW's doing their meaningless work.

As I work away around my house wearing Teva sandals, Eddie Bauer denim shorts, shirtless, long hair blowing in the gentle Sacramento Delta breezes I think "I wonder where those Jehovah's Witnesses are? They haven't been in this neighborhood for 9 months or so. Well good for them, maybe they finally realized there is more to life than harassing their neighbors with the same tired old drivel." (then I shudder remembering I once used to waste my life away doing that exact same thing)
