thirdwitness, you are correct that as far as I can tell the watchtower society has never written that 'Noah preached to the entire world of his day'. But, they also have never said, as far as I can tell, that God killed the entire planet because some didn't listen. However, there is an implication by their statements in the watchtower. We all know those implications.

I'd be interested to know what you thoughts are to the annihilation of a few billion people at armageddon who never had a Jehovah's witness study, or even talk to them?

Here is an example of how the watchtower compares the days of Noah with that of armageddon.

4 Consider the days of Noah. "By faith Noah, after being given divine warning of things not yet beheld, showed godly fear and constructed an ark for the saving of his household," states the Bible. (Hebrews 11:7) The ark would be unusual and quite visible. Moreover, Noah was "a preacher of righteousness." (2 Peter 2:5) Neither Noah’s building project nor his preaching moved the people of his day to act. Why? Because they were "eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage." Those to whom Noah preached were so engrossed in personal affairs and pleasures that "they took no note until the flood came and swept them all away". (watchtower 2003 dec 15, p19-24)

Here is the problem that AlanF is having with parousia in Matthew 24. He starts from a faulty position. 1. His whole reason for wanting parousia to be translated as coming starts with his obsession to disprove JWs. Knowing that JWs translate parousia as presence he takes the opposite position in order to try and discredit JWs. 2. Therefore, he begins with the premise that parousia in Matt 24 means coming and that it cannot mean presence because that is what JWs say it is. 3. Now rather than letting the context determine the meaning, he is forced to try and make the context of Matt 24 and Luke 17 fit into his preconceived notion that parousia must be translated as coming. And try as he may, it simply and absolutely will not fit. Its like trying to put a square peg in a round hole. Because: The days of Noah = the days/parousia of the Son of man. The days of Noah of course lasted many years before the flood came. So likewise the days/parousia of the Son of man lasts many years before Armageddon comes. Obviously the word coming in Matt 24 does not convey the true meaning of parousia in Matt 24. Here is the real parallel of course: Days of Noah.....men eating drinking taking no note.........sex violence and corruption etc...........no taking note................finally after many years, the final day of the days of Noah arrives, the rain begans, the flooding begins and sweeps them all away. Days of Lot.........men eating drinking taking no note.........sex violence and corruption etc........still no taking note......................finally after considerable period of time passes the final day of the days of Lot arrives, fire comes down and destroys Sodom and Gomorrah. Days/Parousia of the Son of man..........men eating drinking taking no note........sex violence corruption etc...... still no taking note......................finally after many years Armageddon or the final day of the days/parousia of the Son of man arrives and sudden destruction comes upon the world. It is simple. Scholars are not needed at all since the Bible here explains itself.

I am getting so sick of parousia... Jesus' presence or coming. And yet I can't stay away from this thread. What is wrong with me?

The preaching work is not over yet. How many more will be contacted who can say? What events will take place during the GT that will make everyone take notice of JWs so that virtually everyone knows of JWs, who can say? Just like in the days of Noah Jehovah did not unjustly destroy anyone I have the same confidence at Armageddon. I know that Jehovah can take note of any righteous ones, just as he did Noah, and direct them to those that will tell them about Jehovah. I do not have to be concerned with it.

Do you think the preaching work is an effective way of getting new members?

TW, We have been living in the GT for 2000 years....read the scriptures again.

Tophat says: TW, Are you equating "NOAH and the ARK" to the WTS and GB? Today our ARK is the Scriptures....and ONLY the scriptures. NOT a fallible, greedy man-made organization.

I will let you answer that for yourself.

If you had lived in the days of Noah what would you have needed to do to survive?

At some point you would have had to join up with Noah. Noah and his family were Jehovah's servants on the earth at that time. Unless you joined in with God's people and entered the ark you would not have been saved.

What is the difference today? Unless you take the side of God's people you will not survive. Who are God's people? Thats the 64,000 dollar question but the answer is easily found.

But keep in mind that many who knew Noah could have made excuses why they did not believe him. Can't you just imagine.

    Noah drinks to much.

    Noah condones child molestation.

Noah cut down some of my trees and didn't ask me.

Noah borrowed my saw and returned it broken.

I saw Noah dealing with Nephilim.

Noah thinks he's the only one that is going to be saved.

Noah is a lying moron. God didn't tell him anything. God must be very displeased in Noah for taking it upon himself as if he knows the mind of the Most High.

God is not going to kill thousands of people just because they refuse to listen to some crackpot building a boat.

I would help Noah but he is building that boat all wrong. It will never float.

I hate the way Noah treats his children. They are not allowed to go to the parties with the other children. I can't believe Noah forces his children to work on that stupid boat all the time. Its ashame they are not allowed to live normal lives. God does not expect that of us.

I have proof that Noah is wrong. There is not enough water in the heavens to flood the entire earth. Here are my calculations. Do you know how many different animals that scientists have determined that there are? There is no possible way that Noah can fit two of evey animal into that box.

All the scholars agree that the days before the coming flood have not began yet. Noah is premature in his expectations.

Where is this promised rain. Why all things are continuing...

You are going to let some old fart tell you how to serve God.

I listen to no man, only God.

So what is the answer to your $64,000 question? (I know you don't take me serious, but I am being serious.) Go ahead, answer it.

Do you think the preaching work is an effective way of getting new members? Yes I think so. If you follow Jesus example how can you go wrong. Surely you would be blessed for the efforts. I know that men might have different ideas about what would work better but I believe sticking to the way Jesus and the apostles did it is the best way. Of course now we are going to see a bunch of posts saying that the early disciples did not go door to door. I will probably not engage in that discussion because I consider it just an excuse to shirk the responsibility of going from door to door and an attempt to discredit JWs as if there is something sinister evil with that method.
