Suitable careers for JW children to aim for!

The October the 1st Watchtower has interesting views on the education of JW children.

Page 30, in which one JW explains how he ended up in FT service says:

'We did not associate with our school mates but only with those in the congregation who had good spiritual habits.'

Interesting as this shows judgmentalism and criticism 'even' in the JW congregation.

Then on page 31 it explains how parents must offer their children, as early as possible, proper guidance in their choice of school subjects and vocation goals.

'Rather than choose academic subjects that are geared toward a university education, parents and children need to consider courses that are useful in pursuing a theocratic career.'

    Then:

'Compared with the positions and rewards that the world offers, a career in full-time service to Jehovah is without doubt the surest way to a life of joy and contentment. Take to heart the Bibl's assurance: 'The blessing of Jehovah- that is what makes rich, and he adds no pain with it' - Prov 10 - 22.

The course that JW children need to be taking are:

Studies show that in many countries, there is an acute need, not for university graduates, but for people to work in the trades and services. USA Today reports that '70% of the workers in the coming decades will not need a four-year college degree, but, rather, an associate degree from a community college or some type of technical certificate.' Many such institutions offer short courses in office skills, auto repair, computer repair, plumbing, hairdressing, and a host of other trades. Are these desirable jobs? Certainly! Perhaps they are not as glamorous as some might envision, but they do offer the means and the flexibility needed by those whose true vocation is service to Jehovah.'

So, you don't have to work hard at these jobs to make a reasonable living?! I don't think so!

University is certainly slammed in this Watchtower. Furthur education is OUT of favour with a vengeance!

The article explains that if your child goes to Uni they will be getting drunk, binge drinking, fornicating left right and centre, taking drugs.... This raises the question, do people who don't go to Uni not do the above things?

In all the article got me very angry again. However, I was pleased to see the desperation in which the WTBTS is trying to hang on to its young ones who are quickly slipping from their grip.

That's why he's 'in cleaning' today because all the unspiritual ones in the congregation have good careers, nice cars and large homes while they serve as elders in the congregations.

I bought that crap about the 2 year education or trades jobs 10 years ago. And yes you can make a decent living by going into a trades job, I did and I do make a decent living. But it was not easy or simple as the WTBTS alludes. They mention 'plumbing' as if you can simply choose to be one and "poof" your now a plumber making lots of money and pioneering. I'm an electrician. It took 5YEARS of school and on the job training to reach journeyman level (until then you are not making anything comparable to a decent living). I know a lot of good plumbers/pipefitters. Their apprenticeship programs are set up exactly like an electricians. I spent just as much effort as I would have in going to college. It's far from the rosy picture of simplicity that the GB paints. And really how would they know any better....they're fed and clothed by the sweat of others.

office skills,- bad association, peer pressure

auto repair,- in the time it takes to memorize the parts of an engine, you could read the whole Bible!!

computer repair,- Sometimes, Pornography is accessed through something called the internet. Once this is on a computer, it is unfit for a christian to touch. Also, Demonic video games have given some young ones trouble.

plumbing, - the GB is already directing where they want their shit to go.

hairdressing, - often, style and immorality is a topic of discussion during a visit to the haridresser. True christians would do well to avoid this subtle snare of satan.

Could it be that the WTBTS is just after more free skilled labour!!!???? Heaven forbid they should be so shallow! But in the Midlands they have certainly found barely any skilled plumbers, builders electricians etc. Most dub men are just dumb ass cleaners. So, if they had more youngster trained in these fields they could use (abuse) their talents for free and build more Kingdumb Halls!

To be fair, one can make a pretty nice living without a university degree. Hell, some plumbers make over $100,000 a year without one. A nurse with an associates degree can do fairly well. And the sky's the limit in starting your own business. The real question is: What does a kid (or adult) want to do? Just make money, or actually enjoy what they do?

Nope. False. You're wrong. I was a JW till I was 25 and never was told that. There were some JWs that had secular careers they enjoyed as well as plenty of people that "made money." I doubt you are a retard so stop making retarded, knee-jerk comments and start thinking. Yes, t-h-i-n-k-i-n-g. B.

Many trades require a 5 year apprenticeship before a person is licensed or certified. This means 5 years of a combination of full time work and some school. I have yet to see the Watchtower explain how this can be done when they're nagging kids to start pioneering right out of high school.

Many such institutions offer short courses in office skills, auto repair, computer repair, plumbing, hairdressing, and a host of other trades. Are these desirable jobs? Certainly!

Funny, I've known elders to persecute JWs for taking courses to acquire these skills too. I took a lot of crap and lost all my "priviledges" for taking computer courses part time on Saturday afternoons.

Most elders are stupid, and that's why they want everyone else to be stupid. It's tough to lord it over people who are smarter than you.
