Does the Bible have to agree with itself for it to have lasting value?

To me...yes. I believe in the inerrancy of scripture.

Not any more or any less than any other seminal work of literature, spiritual or otherwise.

I'm not going to tell you to throw Moby Dick in the trash because in one paragraph Melville accidentally wrote "Captain Abraham and the pink whale..."

    Not for me.

I believe in the inerrancy of the message contained in the Scriptures.

    Brotherdan,

Just curious: Where did you get the idea that "Scripture" must be inerrant?

Also, WHICH "scripture" do you mean exactly?

"The message" of the Bible is far from agreed upon. So preserving that message is much more complicated than you make it out to be.

To me the message of the Bible is, in a word, "Christ".

And "Christ"... whatever you conceive of "Christ" to be...

    IS in fact inerrant.

Have you already proved to yourself that is IS inerrant?

If you haven't, then wouldn't believing in it's inerrancy (before you have proven it) make you bias?

    Yes! Yes! Yes!

And "Christ"... whatever you conceive of "Christ" to be...

The Messiah, the Savior of the world - Jews first.

    IS in fact inerrant.

    Amen.
