They have to justify changes somehow. Is he saying that "We changed it to avoid ambiguity?" or was it always thus and they did not know?
Seems crazy to me that JC would adopt the hierarchy of the WTS as his F & D Slave [in , er was it 1919? ] and wait getting on for 100 years to tell them who they are !
Lets remember what Brother Splain said a couple of years ago when they made this change at the Annual meeting (new light...hmmm).

They are worried about all the mentally diseased apostates out there that are claiming to be part of the 144,000. That is why the # of the anointed keeps going up year after year. I don't about you but I was raised that we were NEVER to question anyone that partook at the Memorial. Now all of a sudden they are questioning some who make the claim they are of the anointed.
So how do we know who actually is mentally diseased?
Of course I was also taught that this Generation would not pass away...hmmm! What a joke!
These teachings are so easy to discredit.
A couple of observations:
It is interesting how tied to his notes he appears to be. His enthusiasm for this new "truth" is dyed-in-the-wool JW, but he still has to make sure he gets the wording right from his notes. Right at the start he poses the question, "Who is the faithful and discreet slave?" and he reads the answer - and then he goes off-script when he adds, "Of course, today we know that as the Governing Body." The answer didn't actually say it is the Governing Body. It said, "It is a small group of anointed brothers who are directly involved in preparing and dispensing spiritual food during Christ's presence."
Even in the original Watchtower article it did not directly say that the faithful and discreet slave is the Governing Body. Paragraph 10 reads,
Who, then, is the faithful and discreet slave? In keeping with Jesus’ pattern of feeding many through the hands of a few, that slave is made up of a small group of anointed brothers who are directly involved in preparing and dispensing spiritual food during Christ’s presence. Throughout the last days, the anointed brothers who make up the faithful slave have served together at headquarters. In recent decades, that slave has been closely identified with the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Note, however, that the word “slave” in Jesus’ illustration is singular, indicating that this is a composite slave. The decisions of the Governing Body are thus made collectively. (Italics, theirs, bold, mine)
It is a pernicious paragraph. The sort of paragraph that can be referred back to on some future date, and stated, "Well, you'll notice that we never directly stated that the Governing Body was the faithful and discreet slave, only that the slave was closely identified with it."
He goes off-script again when he refers to "the domestics". From the script, "Who are the domestics? All those who are fed spiritually whether they are anointed ones or the great crowd of other sheep."
Off-script: "Exciting now that we are included in the domestics, right?"
Why is that exciting? It means nothing. There is nothing to get excited about. He probably means that it is an exciting bit of new understanding. But the logic of it makes no sense. Exciting now that we are included in the domestics? If this is what the scripture means, then it has always meant that. It is just that the faithful and discreet slave, aka, the Governing Body didn't understand that it meant that. They aren't included now - they have always been included.
This is a major flaw with the Society's interpretation of the scriptures, and the whole "light gets brighter" shenanigans. It begs the question, "Why did Jehovah keep that bit of trivia from you?" He must know the full understanding of his Word. Why dish it out piecemeal? Any attempt to answer that question ties the organisation in knots.
