To me, Obama is an ultra-liberal. Period.
Pfft. PLease, in Canada Obama would be considered a Conservative.

One of the reasons I would never live in Canada. (The mosquitoes and the cold weather would keep me out, too!) The National Journal named Obama as the most liberal senator in America in 2007, beating out even Ted Kennedy and John Kerry~and Hillary. If he's not an ultra-liberal, there isn't one. StAnn

And who of us is smart enough to quibble with "The National Journal", eh, St Ann?

screw blacks or whites or anyone who think that ANYONE "belongs" to them.

its this thinking i cant stand that im glad was reinforced by my time as a witness.

This is one world we live on, we are humans, we cannot claim anything, land, people, air, space --

9/11 happened -- people all over were saying "god bless america" screw that. God bless the world!!!! we are all brothers and sisters...

what an irritating premise for a thread.

    why did i bother?

The typical black American family could have a 1000 variables to be typical... as the typical white american family.

Thank you Hillbilly, that's my point - there is no typical black family, just a lot of variables like any other racial group

SixofNine, I'm sure that you are! However, I don't think this is the proper thread for me to get into my real worries over Barack Obama's liberalism. If you want to read what I'm concerned with (and you probably don't), here's a link:

BTW, I love your name. Seven of Nine is my favorite Star Trek character of all time.

Thats what bothers me about Mr Obama. His experience seems more of a world traveler... His PR people are REALLY trying to push him as a Kansas farm kid,,, from deep in the "Heartland" who was imeresed in middle class values by his "single -mom"

Those markers that resonate with some of us.."heartland, single mom, middle America".... taken as a whole then compared to Obamas actual background makes it hard for me and a few other folks to claim him as one of our own, black or white. Most of us did not live all over the place...come back to the states and fall into Harvard. I know thats a rags-to-riches story.. but I see it like this.

Some savant who can throw a football is discovered by a NFL scout at 25. He never played team sports at all, he can just throw and move naturally enough to play well. The kid learned enough about the game through video tape and gameboys to understand the basics.

Dont you think the rest of the guys in the NFL would think he was a bit odd if this wonder kid had never "lived" the experience to get the the highest level of the game?

I expect to see a photo shopped picture of young Barry in a Boy Scout, football and baseball uniform anyday... If his actual life is what makes him "good for America" his press corp should play it up.

His his dad stll alive? I dont recall that fact from what I read about the family

The more important question is who is really backing a lawyer with less than 4 years Federal experience to front this campaign?

    Jeff

Let me turn that around, Bush has 8 years experience how many people in their right mind would want 4 more years of Bush.

I do know Bush is not allowed by the constitution to run again.

I am glad he has decided he doesnt want another 4 years, because the man is oblivious and unaware of a document known as the constitution.

The way I see it experience as a politician is a bad thing. Politicians are very evil, lying people and the longer and more they do it, the better they get at it.

The way I see it, we have 2 bad choices.

They say if you keep hitting your head against the wall hoping for different results, that is insanity.

America is going down the wrong path today, America is bankrupt today.

9 years ago America was solvent and had the best economy in the world.

Today it has suffered 8 years of bushwaking. Republican lies. They lie so much that people start believing them. Bush doesnt believe it. You can see the smirk on his face.

McBush has been described as Bush on steroids. That would be translated as ultra stupid.

This war in Iraq chasing the boogie man has destroyed the US economy.

The stock market has made zero gains in Bushes 8 years.

Thats the stock market the dingbat wants you to invest your social security in. Just like McBush wants.

These 8 years of bush wackin being ridden hard and put up wet has delayed many folks retirement by 8 years, which translates many people will be working till they die.

Thats if we have jobs. Bush and McBush are globalist and all for exporting jobs out of this country.

Obama might be incompetent and a therorist and all the things you say. But he is someone other than Bush and someone other than McBush.

    Desperate people do desperate things.

There are only 2 choices 2 doors to open.

If you vote independent, or libertarian or for someone other than the Democratic or Republican canidate you are throwing your vote away.

Under Bush the countrys been invaded and overrun by Mexicans and imigrants.

Manufacturing has dissappeared, which is why our economy is in a shambels you have to make things.

If sellling insurance and telemarketing made a great economy their would be no 3rd world countrys.

You have to make things. The making of products is the tax base.

Then everyone else serves the maker of things. The police, firemen, insurance man, exterminator, house painter, heat and airconditioning man, banker.

America became great once upon a time because we made things.

Now we dont make much. And we arent much. Thats a depression, recession that we are in.

If Obamas a theorist that means he thinks, If hes thinking he might figure out the answer to the maze, puzzle that were in.

Bush puts out a persona, that he doesnt like to think, he has been described by those who know him as the most un-inquisitive person.

Bush and McBush are for maintaining the status quo. The status quo is to keep the multinational corporations rich create new markets, not for America or American companies, but new markets for international corporations.

Why because of lobbying. The people that lobby them and support them are the internatonal corporations they give them the money to be elected and they tell them what to do.

I know that goes on on both sides. But today there is no question of who Bush or McBush are and what direction they will take this country.

With Obama, one can at least hope he might favor the working man over the lobbiest, maybe just a little bit. A few crumbs.

LIke I said 2 bad choices.

Today I'll make my bad choice for Obama.

I agree that after watching GWB in action most of us wouldnt invite him to be town dog-catcher after he leaves office.

Fresh ideas are good Obama's lack of experience in itself is not a bad thing. I thought the same of Jimmy Carter... and he was a moral conservative man with a good mind who ended up not being able to find his ass with both hands and the lights on while in office. I dont think anyone ever doubted Carters patriotism or thought he was a socialist. I question Obama on both counts.

Obama's Illinois record seems pretty liberal to me. And Illinois politics are pretty screwed up so that speaks volumes. His Federal record isnt much better... but he votes to represent his district. Are they that liberal too? Any surveys out there- would his district invite him back to Congress next time?

Obama came out of no place to get this selection from the Dems. He just doesnt have the clout... I think he's the propped- up- poster boy of some group that has an agenda. My gut tells me Obama wont do the right thing of his own volition. He has to owe something to a lot of Washington insiders to get this far.

Obama is black, who cares. His background, no more privileged that people that I have grown up with and dated. In fact I dated a black man (he's about the same age as Obama) who came from a more privileged and academic background than him, is he less black than those who come from the hood just becasue he's never lived "the life" as the so-called typical black family (one mother, mulitple kids and fathers) has? Obama's parents, mom white american, dad black african who might or might not be a muslim, so what again. That happens all the time in this country. Obama is an american who grew up partly in Kansas and his folks weren't part of the wealthly country club crowd and certainly didn't run with the privileged crowd that our current president grew up with, even though I've heard that Obama is distantly related to Chaney (on his mother's side ). You better believe he's had his run-ins because of his color. No black man in this country can avoid that, a white mom can't stop that.

All this questioning about whether he's black enough (i.e. too privileged) or american enough is stupid. I'm more concerned with his politcial record. I didn't think he would get this far and when I first heard about him I thought he was not experienced enough and jumped into this too soon.
