Business v. friendship
by sweetface2233 ini have touched on this subject in public a few times and have discussed in detail w/ a few posters exactly what happened between my former best friend and i. to make a long story short, he borrowed money from me (several thousand $) and, in my opinion, carelessly went on a spending spree w/in the next several months.
i confronted him about it, and essentially was given the boot due to it.
at first, i was practically devestated (just like any break-up from a ltr), but now i am over it and have been able to give more focus to my other friends, as well as make new ones.. he and i had minimal contact since the beginning of august to the beginning of january.

What ways are they able to take you for granted and walk all over you? Time? Interests? You always do what the other person wants?
For myself, until/unless I'm able to pin down HOW I'm being taken advantage of, it's not likely I'll figure out how to stop it. I'll just keep going through the same scenario but with different people. Kinda sucks.

So here's a question: When you make friends with someone (guys or gals,) do you routinely feel compelled to give them things that have tangible value? (Lending money, gifts that cost money, your business skills at no charge, etc?) Can you have a friendship where you don't give anything except friendship?
I ask because it seems to be a common thing where people seem to think that they have to prove their friendship by giving something of monetary value. Maybe you've kind of slid into that feeling, and now you have people coming around who take advantage of your generosity instead of being just interested in your friendship?
Could you make a rule for yourself that you will not give gifts worth more than $5 (or whatever) until you are sure you have a clear idea of where your personal boundaries are, and how to get them to work? (just brainstorming... I have a lot of trouble with this one too.)

Can you tell him that you can only re-visit the idea of friendship if the lines regarding the loan can be kept completely clear and separate? He may be under the impression that you are ONLY upset with him over the money, and since he's repaying the money responsibly, things should be a-okay with the two of you socially too.

I hadn't seen that ep. It was unbelievable! I'm from the NW, and it was like watching a different world. I figured they'd have people yelling, but the rocks, pitbulls, and being chased out? They were actually scared...
"Don't go to America."
Most interesting part to me is where they were showing the regular street devastation from Katrina, a year after the event. They commented that the "richest nation in the world," hasn't taken care of it yet. Sad, but true. But then you hear what they say about the woman who was going to sue for allegedly misrepresenting the free car as a 1991 when it was an '89, unless they handed her $20K, and then it's easy to see why it stays the way it is.

Chiropractic
by sass_my_frass ini have always suspected that chiropractic is a total crock.
the concept that having your backbone crackled a little bit every month will control your blood pressure, cure your asthma and keep you mobile and flu-free until you're 120 seems farfetched, and yet all my life every time i have had a headache i have been inclined to set up an appointment.. i've really only been in serious pain three times; some bad neck pain which cleared up after a depressing relationship, some lumbar pain from a bad lift incident which cleared up after three weeks of wiggling around on a fitball while i was watching tv in the evening, and some weird shoulder pain which cleared up when i rejoined a gym.
i have wasted a lot of money for many years - chiropractic just wasn't there for me.

Depends on the chiropractor. Any chiro who tries to set you up on an extended "contract" is a crook. A good chiro will not make outrageous claims about "curing all your ailments with spinal adjustment."
I'm a huge believer AND a huge skeptic. I will not see a chiro who tells me I have to come in multiple times a week for months on end, especially if he hasn't examined me yet. I use chiropractic, occasionally, as needed for migraines (I have a rotated atlas- top vertebra, it's clearly abnormal on xray, even without anyone pointing it out. Makes the cranial foramen magnum look like a lopsided ellipse instead of a near circle.) It works for me, but I do NOT have to go all the time, just when I feel certain symptoms, and can palpate a knot in one area on my neck.
I also have clients who occasionally see chiropractors. Sometimes I send them for an adjustment because things feel "wrong" and they are having a spasm in the area. Usually one or two adjustments corrects it. I also have clients who have gone for adjustments every week for years. They are in really bad shape, I believe because of the over-treatment.
So very mixed feelings. If your gut tells you the chiro you are seeing is a crook, run away. Anyways, he fired you because you couldn't be sold oceanfront property in Arizona. Good for you.

Ha! So this is the last WT study from the "old format," right? So the next one should be "REALLY HARD," right? Well, that's what an elder told me anyways, that when the new "members only" study Watchtower came out that the articles would be much deeper. Ha! We'll see about that... I suppose it won't take much to top this one.

Typical Long-ass Rollerdavishness
by RollerDave inbad chicken is one of the worst stenches you will ever encounter, i hate the card game 'trips and runs' and certain wendy's drive thru's are open until 3am, but i get ahead of myself.. my becky's work has its christmas party in january, which is kinda odd, but also works pretty good for deflecting flack from my relatives who remain proudly captives of the crusty old codgers from crooklyn in their control tower.. we went to the party last night.
it was in a banquet hall connected to and run by a catholic church.
there was an open bar, which by local ordinance necessitated the presence of an armed off duty police officer, we had food, and the entertainment was a local 'casino service' that provides the chips the dealers, and the games; all becky's work had to provide was the prize table so we could bid on the prizes with our 'points' at the end of the evening.. there was some primo stuff there, rock band, guitar hero for x-box 360, a top end espresso machine, tools, i mean some damn good stuff.. so dinner went well, i managed to keep the carb count low, but didn't really get filled up.
