That was great about Milty! Hey, Freddie was in the lands of Moab & Edom for many years, and they let him run the "theology show."
after 40 years of serving as a regular pioneer and being on the infirm list, the circuit overseer, the po and another elder told her today in a 30 min.
conversation she was going to be announced as no longer pioneering.
the co mostly talked about me, my wife and daughter.

many times on this board people post to say a factor in their leaving the wt was having read ray franz book(s) - many years ago william schnell published a book - 30 years a watchtower slave - have never seen this book but was wondering - has anyone read it ?
was it as effective as crisis of conscience in exposing the myth of "the truth"?
- did it have an imact when it was publised?
I read '30 years slave' in a back room of a small public library when I was pioneering. The book was anethema. Being seen with it was a NO-NO. It was the first publication to begin to open my eyes. As one other poster stated, there was nothing else out there at that time, so to me it was invaluable - bitter, sarcastic, but real. And yes, Ray was shafted, with all the rest of us. Bitter is good, if it breeds fruit. Many here can attest to what Ray's book did for them!
the typical jehovah's witness no longer is the strong, spiritual giant.
lately, i hear more and more "very inactive" jws that haven't gone to a congregation meeting in years, still consider themselves good jws.
they are like "home baptists".
I agree that there is less zeal, no consuming fire, and more diffidence than anything else. You could consider them moving more "mainstream" in many ways. It's almost like talking about "liberal" Southern Baptists. What's that?
Yes, the lady in the 10 room house with big noticeable contributions will no longer see the grillings in committee rooms for not showing up at Sister Maggie's for book study.
A young brother (had been my Bible Study) was getting married the next week, and I had agreed to do the wedding talk. The single "brothers" in the hall decided to throw him a surprise party and kept it quiet; anyhow, they took him to shoot pool, and then to the house where the party was being thrown. There was a keg of beer and some liquor bottles, now mind you half these people were under age, and the drinking started up and soon a porn flick was being shown, then it was decided that more liquor was wanted, so 1 legal kid and 1 17 y.o. kid went to get the booze, and side swipped a parked car on the way back to the party, and of course, left the accident scene, and were back with a few more fifths to revive the gang. Another porn flick was popped in, the gang got very drunk, and the next morning maybe 3 out of the 15 showed up for the Public Talk - very hung over. About 15 minutes into the Tower, another 2 dragged themselves in, and man, the committee was busy that week. Everyone squealed on everyone, and by the time the wedding rolled around and completed, a new batch was being scrutinized for excessive indulgence and scandalous dancing and 2 were caught making out in the back of the wedding hall, oh! One of their mates found the lovers. At the time, my wife and I finally understood why Brooklyn sent us to that congo. Most social congo I had been to - couldn't appreciate the good things back then. What a shame, some people had a real good party.
on my way home last night from work i ran into a prominent elder from brooklyn.
this guy is always featured at circuit assemblies and his family was presented as the model witiness family in the 80's.
well imagine my shock and surprise when i realized that this dub had just bought a lottery ticket.
Yeah, we need the name, if we're going to pray for the poor SOB to win this week, right?
i really need some good advice.. i have been dissasociated for 7 years--an ex:elder.
i have three children, none of them have spoken to me since i left other than my son saying that they would "welcome me back with open arms if i return, but until then they would have nothing to do with me".
this at the hospital bed where my mother (their grandmother) died less than a month later.. my middle daughter got married 2 years ago and for some strange reason i did not get an invitation.
He will always be your son. I say go, dress well, be polite, don't get freaked as they look at you as if you had 4 heads. Say hello to whomever says hello to you (if that happens). Leave after the ceremony without hanging around. Mail a gift, if you intend to give one. Be bigger than them!
.
i have been thinking about this a lot lately.........kindness shouldn't go unnoticed or not appreciated.

After my wife died I had a friend I played on the same men's league b-ball team and he would come by my house and bang on the windows as I sat alone in the dark. He wouldn't stop banging the windows until I came out, and we would go play b-ball, have some beers, and talk. That was so precious what David did. Call him every Xmas to say thanx.
i have to tell you something.. i really find it hard getting over the idea of no new system and all that it meant to me.
to be with my children and their children forever in perfect health.. too many days it just leaves me empty.
i just wish i could shake it and enjoy life, but the idea that we just live for 70 years and die kills me.
Getting over their promises took a long time, but I don't believe that "this is all there is." No way!

At this point shouldn't the anti-typical 10 plagues of Egypt get unleashed on DUMBO and not affect "God's people." Maybe the burough's subway system will be full of blood for starters and then the 18 residents who opposed the plan will fall on their knees before the "anti-typical gnats and boils" arrive. Who will play Moses? Brother Brown, the lawyer?
One Saturday in Westen Mass. while working on the new Kingdumb Hall, as the "slaves" brought lunch 2 elders began arguing, pushing, shoving, and one took off his glasses and took a swing at the other brother. They had to be restrained and lunch was served by the "slaves" - the next day after the Tower study the 2 made a big show of hugging each other and complimenting each other on whatever. The next issue at hand, keeping it from the CO and hushing it up among the "Brethren."
Another time we paid a shepherding call on a sister, and the 'brother" who took the swing at the other brother got into a loud disagreement with the sister and she asked him to leave the house. Finally with me urging him to leave and her mentioning the police, we left. He stated that it was now his duty to have her "thrown out" of the Congo.
