Perhaps they think that people may have been prepared to meet in a glorified warehouse when they believed the end was near, but when your prophecies keep failing and it looks like you're in for the long haul you'd better make the place of worship a bit more pleasant.

a five-year-old boy with a brain tumour has been taken without consent from hospital by his parents, sparking a major police hunt for the family.. ashya king was taken from southampton general hospital and is now believed to be in france with his parents and six siblings.. police said he needs constant medical care and there are "serious concerns" for his life if he is not found today.. brett king, 51, and naghemeh king, 45 removed him from the ward on thursday.. ashya's father was pictured taking him from the hospital"everyone is sending their love now.
we love you so much and we want to see you very soon and i love you so much and can't wait to see you.".
It's being reported today that the family are looking to sell a house in Spain to fund treatment in the Czech Republic. That's fine but what I can't understand is why the father couldn't go off and do that himself - why on earth would you subject a desperately ill child to a gruelling journey with no access to skilled medical care?
all the jws on my facebook news feed are defending the family vigorously and rightly so imo.
if the watchtower had any sense they would step up and offer to pay for ashya's treatment.
that would do far more for their profile than their website publicity campaign.
Can't see any way they would do this. It would be implicitly approving the science, research and eduction that goes into developing new treatments.
Furthermore, if the treatment doesn't make any difference, they can be painted as anti-medical establishment because the doctors have already said the treatment will not help in this case.

"a 9-year-old girl learning to fire a submachine gun accidentally killed her instructor at a shooting range when the weapon recoiled over her shoulder, according to arizona authorities.
another reason to go against those arguing that young children should be taught how to use guns.
Of course accidents can happen and children can't be protected from all risks as they grow up but there comes a point when the risk outweighs any potential benefits and parents have to be responsible. In the case of a 9 year old with an Uzi the risks are significant and the benefits minimal at best. Regardless of personal views on gun control this can't be sensible.
i've made a few posts here already so i thought i'd introduce myself.
i'm an ex-jw from cheltenham pittville (uk) congregation.
i've been free and clear for a few years now so i'm through the anger phase and in the happily getting on with my life phase.
Hi Onager. I'm also UK and I also find this religion curiously fascinating and I was never even in it! (I do however have relatives who are.) I hope you enjoy the site.
this was telling from a recent wt:.
w06 9/1 p. 4 religionwhat good does it do?.
you have probably noticed that many clergymen today use religion to elevate themselves with high-sounding titles and to obtain money from their flocks.
Indeed. Governing Body, Circuit Overseer, Elder (especially if not very old) are all high-sounding titles that help give authority and power over the obedient masses.
for the 33 years i was "in" their seemed to be a constant barrage against catholicism from either the watchtower or awake mags., and hardly a peep out of them towards other individual faiths .. i havent read any of their publications for well over 20 years and was just wondering if anything has changed in this regard .. smiddy.
I'd like to see them have a go at Islam. It could get a bit tasty at the Kingdom Halls in Birmingham and Bradford (UK).
don't be confused .when i say who i mean who because back in 1957 jehovah's witnesses didn't believe that armageddon was just the gathering of the kings of the earth to battle with the invisible armies of jesus' angels.no ,armageddon was more than that and it did fit bible account far more than it does today .. read the post below which contains a 1957 question from readers (please let me know if the page is displaying correctly on your browser).
is armageddon a place ?.
Wow - seriously bonkers.
this is a quote of a quote taken from anthoney mathenia:.
" for organizations like the watchtower, absolute control of their message is paramount.
it will not even allow its own adherents to spread their good news online.
If I knew more about web-site design I might be tempted to splash out £5 and build a spoof site.
