Bloodless surgery is the standard today because of medical progress. Or NOT?
by Nathan Natas init appears diogenesister feels a need for a proper ass-kicking.. ok, if you insist.
i'm a dub proctologist.... attempting to hijack greatteacher's thread "jw parents in severe car accident,".
diogenesister seized my observation that "bloodless surgery is the standard today, not because of the wtb&ts but because of medical progress" with he carefully-crafted argument "bull crap.".

The spread of the HIV virus gave more urgency to the need for bloodless surgery, and the medical profession stepped up to the game. The JWS played a part, particularly with the business end of R&D for new machinery (at least that is my impression). So, they did participate, but I think the HIV crisis did more to promote bloodless surgery. -

JW stand on Philosophy is inexcusable!
by Pinku inpaul knew that torah with all its rituals and sacrifices did not originate with god (jeremiah 7:22; 8:8), hence he warned christians to guard against deceptive philosophy that would take them back to torah.
(colossians 2:8 compare 2:11, 16, 17) in view of the over-all view of the bible, there is no excuse to use the word philosophy with any negative connotation.
jws built their stand on philosophy based on this wrong (negative) use of the word philosophy found in colossians 2:8.. the greek word philosophi a means love of wisdom.

OTWO - hey, that's one of the "20 Questions" in the well-known textbook. "Is there any such thing as real altruism? Or is feeling good the reward? Discuss"
And Pinku, I guess you kinda provide an example that would support the "no" part of the debate.

My parents had a major freak-out when I told them I was studying philosophy. Seemed crazy to me. Seriously, WTF?

Could Wt afford to proselytise in China if they were allowed in.
by joe134cd ini was just thinking today if china opened it doors to wt, and there was the surge of interest as was the the case with the european eastern block countries when communism 1st fell.

Not only that, but it would be a hard sell in China. I've made a few new Chinese Canadian friends, and they are not likely to have any wool pulled over their eyes, especially with respect to religion.

Jan, I remember that my father celebrated as a child. That side of the family goes back to 1800s. So, I would say "yes".

Something I was thinking, is that there may be many volunteers needed for ESL work, especially conversational English. Check with the local Library for that - they should have an ESL volunteer program there. :) -

The value of starting a new topic
by smiddy ini see some members , who have been on this board for many ,many years , who very seldom posted a topic for discussion..i would like to encourage everyone in this situation to re-think there reasons for not starting a subject for discussion.. sometimes after the event , i have thought to myself why did you start that topic ,stupid, however on reading the replies to that said topic , i have learnt a helluva lot more in having done so .in other words i learn a great deal more from the feedback i get from you guys than the question or statement i post.. you might think your question or statement is irrelevant , however to somebody else on this board it may just be the thing they are looking for to help them get through some issue of there own .. so please don`t hold back from posting a subject dear to your heart , or anywhere else .. just saying .
smiddy.

COmments mixed up .......sorry.
I've had similar happen. It's easy to feel silly and redundant. But you are right, Smiddy. It's always worth sharing, you never know what you may learn, or who may read and be helped.

I join with Simon saying, Welcome, Syrian friends! From Nova Scotia, where some of you may arrive :)
Refugees should have arrived in TO last night.
There's a central drop-off and online lists for donations. We will be welcoming about 1,500 refugees to the province.
I'm going to ask my Syrian friends if they know anyone, once the people are arriving. We have a Syrian resto here already, that's my friend's place. I have some winter wear ready, hoping it's before Xmas.
These are exciting times, and I'm happy to be part of something positive. Thank you, Mr. Prime Minister, too.

What Could Hacker Do To The JW.Org Site?
by frankiespeakin ini really don't know anything about what hackers do.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/hacker_(computer_security).
in the computer security context, a hacker is someone who seeks and exploits weaknesses in a computer system or computer network.
hackers may be motivated by a multitude of reasons, such as profit, protest, challenge or enjoyment.

There are "Anonymous" vids on youtube claiming that the JWS are a target I was reading files this morning, that are accredited to Anonymous; files of JW cases being discussed. I don't know if it's for real.
I don't belong to exJW facebook groups that discuss JW or are 'activists', but friends do. It was an open group, so saw the posting on my friends' feed to the right of my screen, and clicked the file. Quite realistic.
